New Facebook Timeline Tells Livestrong's Story Of Endurance In 2010, when Fast Company profiled Doug Ulman, the President and CEO of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Armstrong was facing a doping scandal. Allegations were never substantiated, and the case was eventually dropped. For a while, however, there were questions about whether the charity could survive without him. All of that makes Facebook's decision to enlist the Foundation as one of the first non-profits to test out Timeline brand pages this week more interesting. "To have the capability of telling a story over time that people can actually engage with is really important," Ulman told Fast Company on a call with Livestrong's Director of New Media Travis Rimel. "It gives our users our fans the opportunity to reflect back on where they were when things happened," Rimel added. In addition to providing a forum for reflection, as Facebook Timeline pioneers, Ulman and Rimel hope to serve as a model for other non-profit organizations facing the challenges of the social media age.

Five Keys to Successful Social and Emotional Learning Pamela Randall: Social-emotional skills are the essential skills for success in school, work and life. Natalie Walchuk: Social-emotional learning centers their mind and body. It reduces their emotional tension, so they can be open to new content and material. Pamela: If we expect students to be college and career ready, it's important for us to focus on these skills and competencies: Self-Awareness; Self-Management; Social Awareness; Relationship Skills; and Responsible Decision-Making. Natalie: We find that Self-Awareness is one of the hardest things for young people. Pamela: Self-Management is the ability to self-motivate, to have self-control, to regulate one's emotions. Natalie: In a classroom, that may be a breathing exercise, or that might be counting to five, or taking a break. Rose Ludwig: So with students who don't really know how to deal with their anger, or don't really know how to resolve conflict, we're giving them a tool that helps them deal with it in a less stressful way.

10 Articles That Changed My Life | LifeReboot.com It’s easy to find a well written article. It’s not always easy to find a well written article with genuine value. That’s because the Internet has nearly limitless value — you can use it to look up the correct spelling of a word, or to translate text between languages, or even figure out “what’s the name of that guy from that movie who was in that other movie?” You can also use the Internet to go shopping while at home, or do job searching while at work, or publish blog entries while on vacation. Taking it to the next level, you can use the Internet to interact with people, make new friends around the world, or research your next dating partner. What I’ve discovered to be most surprising, though, is that the Internet contains life-altering advice. Regardless of this, most people don’t think to seek it out. For this reason, I’ve compiled the following list of articles containing value so profound that they literally changed my life. #1 – Steve Jobs’ 2005 Stanford Commencement Address
