In the RAW | johnbrawley My involvement in the development of the Blackmagic Cinema camera has raised the question of just what it means to have a RAW camera to shoot with. I guess till now it wasn’t really like there was a RAW shooting video camera for the film-making masses. Really they are true pioneers for offering this kind of image making pipeline for such a crazy low cost of entry for the camera. I guess I’ve forgotten about my own steep learning curve that came with being exposed to a RAW workflow from shooting stills. As electronic cinematographers, we’ve become accustomed to the myriad of image processing that occurs deep in the camera before it even gets to be recorded or encoded. Shooting on film means you could choose your individual film stock with it’s own personality and then it’s own developing “processes” and even what kind of telecine of scanning you wanted to do. You could choose to alter steps in the chemical baths that meant you could affect contrast (bleach bypass). 1. 2. Like this:

Why you should consider Amazon's super cheap, super slow storage A massively redundant offsite location is one of the safest places to stash your important data. There are lots of services that offer something like this, but they generally cost you tens (or hundreds) of dollars per year for a limited number of gigs. Amazon's new Glacier data vault is slower, but way cheaper, at just one penny per gig. The service that Amazon is now offering should be familiar to anyone with experience with online storage. Amazon's Glacier is different than a conventional online storage system in two ways: It's damn cheap. It's easy to have a knee-jerk reaction to a three to five hour access time and write Glacier off as useless, but think about how much data you have lying around that you don't really want to lose but that you probably never, ever look at. Glacier even makes sense to use as a media storage service: why not back up all of your pictures and music to it for cheap? Amazon Glacier is up and flowing now, and you can sign up at the link below.

19 Quotations SCHOPENHAUER'S 38 STRATAGEMS, OR 38 WAYS TO WIN AN ARGUMENT Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860), was a brilliant German philosopher. These 38 Stratagems are excerpts from "The Art of Controversy", first translated into English and published in 1896. Carry your opponent's proposition beyond its natural limits; exaggerate it. The more general your opponent's statement becomes, the more objections you can find against it. 5 Intuitions about Love and Sex You Shouldn’t Ignore By Judith Orloff MD When we’re looking for love (or under its intoxicating influence), we often miss seeing extraordinary signs and messages that pop up in our daily life to give us clues as to whether we’re on the right track. However, if you can slow down enough to recognize and listen to your intuitive intelligence, it can reveal truth, warn you of danger, or help you understand people and relationship situations in new ways. From my book, Emotional Freedom, here are five types of intuitive experiences you may encounter, and what they can teach you about your love relationships. Body signals Your body has many ways of getting your attention. How to use it in romantic relationships Most commonly referred to as a “gut reaction,” your body’s response to the world around you is often instant–quicker, in fact, than your conscious thought. TIL there is a fan made edit of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace". It removes 18 minutes of dialogue and almost every scene with Jar Jar Binks, critics say its better than the original. : todayilearned Mr. Bartlett - Ramblings... Created an OVA file to 'deploy' to another ESX Server and ran into an issue with the network interfaces. The Export of the OVA and the IMPORT went ok. But when I booted the machine and started to check connectivity i noticed there was no interfaces showing up when I ran the ifconfig command. When I searched dmesg for errors I found: Which pointed me to the etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file. I checked the NIC under the VMWare Settings and see that the 'assigned' MAC matches eth3 from the 70-persistent-net.rules file (shown below). Modified the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file and removed the old entries and renamed the new entries to match the proper interface: Updated the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethx files so they have the proper MAC/HWADDR values. Reboot after changes, and everything is awesome! Was lucky enough to see a few emails come through my inbox which pointed to some web sites serving up some Blackhole Exploit Kits..

47 Mind-Blowing Psychological Facts You Should Know About Yourself I’ve decided to start a series called 100 Things You Should Know about People. As in: 100 things you should know if you are going to design an effective and persuasive website, web application or software application. Or maybe just 100 things that everyone should know about humans! The order that I’ll present these 100 things is going to be pretty random. pixelmonkey.org – Andrew Montalenti's blog The Great New York-to-Paris Auto Race of 1908 | Past Imperfect Nascar is a multibillion-dollar business whose history and rich mythology are rooted in money; Southern liquor-runners and moonshiners gave the earliest, postwar version of the sport much of its tone. But long before the advent of stock-car racing, competitive drivers cared less about prize or profit than about simply completing the course. The men who lined up in the swirling snow of Times Square on the morning of February 12, 1908, were embarking on a nearly unimaginable feat: a race from New York to Paris, westward. The proposed route would take the drivers across the United States, including through areas with very few paved roads, and then head north through Canada. In Times Square that morning 17 men, including drivers, mechanics and journalists, crammed into six cars from four countries: three from France, and one each from Germany, Italy and the United States. The contestants represented an international roster of personalities. Pulling the Thomas Flyer out of Colorado mud.
