OCCHIATA: Thomas Hicks A La B.A.N.K., en ce moment, on peut voir les oeuvres d'un jeune artiste anglais qui expose pour la première fois en galerie. Thomas Hicks fait avant tout des dessins d'animation. Parfois ce sont des clips destinés à accompagner de l'électro ou du rock anglais. Parfois les films précèdent la musique, comme dans le cas de celui qui est présenté actuellement. Quand on sait que Thomas Hicks a travaillé pour une société, à Londres, qui s'occupait de restaurer des films, et qu'il a passé des heures à regarder des morceaux de bandes endommagées, maculées et trouées, on comprend l'esthétique qu'il a choisie. Son film, qui met en scène de petits personnages dans une ambiance de déshumanisation très années 1930, est rythmé par de faux effets super 8, des grésillements, de la neige, des taches. Le tout distille de l'humour — un peu noir —, et un parfum désuet. L'exposition présente aussi les dessins préparatoires des films. Il y a une certaine grâce obscure dans tout cela.
