10 Anime of the Decade: My Honorable Mentions As you all know, Japanator has recently finished their Top 50 Anime of the Decade feature. As many of you also know, much rage was abound over the many anime that didn’t get their proper praise on the list. I personally found Japanator’s list to be one of the best “top anime” lists I’ve seen in a while, yet I too regretted the lack of certain anime. Thus, here are my top 10 picks of the decade that DID NOT show up on Japanator’s Top 50. Because let’s be honest, if I did, Gurren Lagann and FLCL would just end up taking spots #1 and #2, and that’s no fun. Note: I’d like to say once again that I greatly enjoyed the Top 50 list.

Ten Anime Films You Should See Before You Die One of the most surprising, and gratifying, things that has happened since I started my blog, Tim Maughan Books, a year or so ago is the positive feedback I’ve had for the anime reviews—especially from people I know are far from being massive fanboys like myself. It’s gratifying because its part of the reason I started writing them; to try and introduce the medium to people who had never really indulged in it all, at least not past perhaps watching Spirited Away with their kids. The problem is, once you’ve had your first taste, where do you go next? Kubrick's bathrooms Stanley Kubrick: An Indoor-Plumbing Luddite by Stephanie Morgan Men like Marshall McLuhan pronounce the downfall of civilization in clear terms – in his case, the advent of written language split apart our tribal society forever destroying our close-knit society that was once built upon the need to remain close in order to receive information. Three years after his death, I realize that an artist like Stanley Kubrick is subtler when describing the downfall of civilization. Best known for films like “2001: A Spacey Odyssey,” “Full Metal Jacket,” and “Eyes Wide Shut,” Kubrick was once one of the famed five directors with “final cut” status. This meant that Kubrick controlled all aspects of the final product – no studio could take a film and recut it to their liking.
