Doan Hung Phuong, who got Band 7 in IELTS, shares with us his secrets for success in the Reading test. Reading tips I must say that this skill is based on intelligence very much. Reading requires a great deal of vocabulary. Pay a particular attention to the grammar structure. Catching the main idea in reading is also important. Another way to practice Reading is Speed Reading. Besides skimming and scanning, I found that reading intensively is also important in the IELTS test, especially to understand tough questions. After finishing the reading practice test, you MUST check all wrong answers, try to explain why you were wrong (you may need someone who has a good level of English to help you) and think of another way to answer those questions faster. In brief, guessing is the key in reading.

Sample IELTS essay questions and topics Questions not just topics While the topics are predictable enough, the actual questions are invariably extremely precise. Again, there is also a good reason for this: the examiners do not want you to learn an essay, they want to test your English and see if you can answer a precise question, rather than produce a general answer to a general topic. Learn and practice the question formats There are 3 main formats of IELTS essay question Each type of essay has its own difficulty (see answering the question 2 ). The exam format Remember that in the exam these words are always included: Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your knowledge or experience This is no small point because it tells you that whatever the form of the question, you need to be able to explain and exemplify your answer ( see coherence) . IELTS Speaking tips If your goal is Band 6, you don’t have to speak a complex English – just don’t make mistakes in the simple English. Don’t experiment with new words during your interview – it is not the time. No one will judge you on your ideas, only on your English. You have to think about what and HOW you are going to say. Expose yourself to as much English as you can. If you make mistake – that’s bad, if you correct yourself – it’s not that bad. If you say “economic” instead of “economy” and make more mistakes like that – it’s a Band 5 job. Band 7 people should show they can use a little of special vocabulary. Related posts:
