Cinnamon Doughnut Muffins I made up these little gems this afternoon in the hopes we would have them for Sunday breakfast tomorrow morning. However, they are SO GOOD, I don’t anticipate them making it through the night. They will be devoured before bedtime. I know it. The town I live in does not sport a donut shop, can you believe that? Light, airy and just perfectly, perfect, the recipe makes nine (which is perfect for breakfast) but five have already been eaten by hungry little (and big) mouths.I just know these muffinswill be searched out through the evening. Everyone will just have to be happy with eggs for breakfast because that’s all there will be! In a large bowl, sift flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon; whisk to combine. In another bowl, combine sugar, oil, egg, and milk. Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients just until moistened. Fill greased or paper-lined muffin cups half-full; place one teaspoon jam on top. Place melted butter in a small bowl; combine sugar and cinnamon in another bowl.

breakfast pizza My son’s favorite game in the whole world is Let’s Play With The Other Baby! You Know, The One We Keep In The Mirror. We bring him over to this giant mirror in the hallway and he goes berserk, he paws at the “other” baby, kicks his legs, squeals and laughs. It took us a few weeks to realize how sad this game actually is. Or more accurately, what I didn’t make: baked eggs and busy stratas and quiche and baked French toast and winter fruit salads and anything involving jam on bread or plates and forks. I was a little dubious about the intersection of mozzarella and eggs — I had a very awful omelet with that combo, plus basil, a few years ago — and I was also convinced that the eggs would roll right off the crust but ended up finding this pizza absolutely, utterly perfect in every way. Pie Pops Alber Elbaz speaks about “lightness” during interviews before his collections. I think his summation of what women need seems pretty accurate. Yes, we need lightness/ease/mobility. Mango Lassi (Indian Yogurt Drink Every mango lassi recipe you'll find always has the same list of ingredients. Milk, yogurt, mango (fresh or canned), sugar and some crushed ice are always present, though the proportions may differ. To these, I added cardamom extract, saffron (for color) and a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor of the mango. There's something magical about mango lassi (Indian-style smoothie). Ingredients Yields: 6 glasses 1-1/4 cups mango pulp (see tips)2 cups plain yogurt2/3 cup milk (I used evaporated milk)1/4 cup superfine sugar, to taste1/8 teaspoon salt2 cups crushed ice1/8 teaspoon saffron threads (optional)1/8 teaspoon cardamom extract (optional) Directions In a mortar and pestle, grind the saffron threads (if used). Combine the mango purée, yogurt, saffron milk (if used), the rest of the milk, superfine sugar, salt and crushed ice in a blender. Pour into 6 small glasses. Enjoy! Tips I prefer using superfine sugar. I made my own yogurt last summer. I use the Vitamix blender.
