PRESTO Disney and Pixar Short Film Animation clip-beautiful-RibA Thorium (Updated March 2014) Thorium is more abundant in nature than uranium. It is fertile rather than fissile, and can only be used as a fuel in conjunction with a fissile material such as recycled plutonium.Thorium fuels can breed fissile uranium-233 to be used in various kinds of nuclear reactors.Molten salt reactors are well suited to thorium fuel, as normal fuel fabrication is avoided. The use of thorium as a new primary energy source has been a tantalizing prospect for many years. Nature and sources of thorium Thorium is a naturally-occurring, slightly radioactive metal discovered in 1828 by the Swedish chemist Jons Jakob Berzelius, who named it after Thor, the Norse god of thunder. Thorium exists in nature in a single isotopic form – Th-232 – which decays very slowly (its half-life is about three times the age of the Earth). When pure, thorium is a silvery white metal that retains its lustre for several months. Estimated world thorium resources1 Thorium as a nuclear fuel

Full Pixar’s Short LA LUNA Is Here & Available For All! 11.4KGoogle + Don’t worry guys, we’re not here to give you a broken link! The only thing you need is a comfortable seat. That’s all, because we have Pixar‘s Oscar-nominated shorty La Luna, and as usual – we want to share the fun with you! La Luna tells the story of a young boy who, one night, accompanies his father & grandfather to their unusual nighttime job. Should he follow the example of his Papa, or his Grandpa? My conclusion: director Casarosa definitely did a great job with this movie! And ok, maybe La Luna is not an intense or funny story, but please have in mind that there’s also no speaking in the film, or as he explained – instead, characters communicate through gibberish. That was obviously the biggest challenge for Casarosa and his team. There’s a real art to creating gibberish and it’s only after doing our homework and searching for voice actors who could really embody our characters that we finally found the right mix for our short. Real art, for sure!

Thorium-Fueled Automobile By: David Russell Schilling | October 28th, 2013 Thorium Concept Car - Image Courtesy www.greenpacks.com There are now over one billion cars traveling roads around the world directly and indirectly costing trillions of dollars in material resources, time and noxious emissions. Imagine all these cars running cleanly for 100 years on just 8 grams of fuel each. Laser Power Systems (LPS) from Connecticut, USA, is developing a new method of automotive propulsion with one of the most dense materials known in nature: thorium. Because thorium is so dense it has the potential to produce tremendous amounts of heat. Cadillac World Thorium Fuel Concept (Image Courtesy www.cutedesign.com) Current models of the engine weigh 500 pounds, easily fitting into the engine area of a conventionally-designed vehicle. The idea of using thorium is not new. According to Robert Hargraves, “low or non-CO2 emitting energy sources must be cheaper than coal or will ultimately fail to displace fossil fuels.”
