Here’s how it looked in the original catalog: After the house was delivered in kit form by boat to the Manteo waterfront, it was unloaded and assembled here. This is how it looks today: Be still, my heart. A reader named Melody sent me these photos that she took of the house. The house still has its original light fixtures: There are 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. The Sears Roebuck catalogs began to offer house plans in 1895. Bungalows like this one were among Sears’ best-selling house plans. Melody tells me, “The board and batten barn is also a beautiful spot and opens up at one end with double doors.” Local artist Gina Owens paints colorful folk art fish on boards and crab pot floats like these shown on the barn behind the house: Hooked on Cottages?

Geninne's Art Blog Eye-LIKEy chats with Maria Carluccio artist + author When I was a kid I once got in big trouble for scratching doodles of houses into a soft leather tabletop (hey, it was the '70s). From that point on I knew I was hooked. I always thought that it was cool to be able to draw what you could see but it was magical to draw what you could feel or imagine. I still think that. My dad practiced law. I would find treasure in the exotic scraps of paper. Today I am a freelance illustrator and designer. Maria graduated with an BFA from Carnegie Mellon ( same school as Andy Warhol, by the way! How do you stay inspired? I try to keep my eyes open to so much. Typical work day? I have to have coffee through out the day. What are you currently working on now? I’m working on some new letterforms for Wall Stories. Favorite place you ever traveled to I think I’d have to say Japan. Where would you like to visit that you haven’t yet? India and all over Scandinavia. Top 3 Favorite website + blog/s Ok, so first, I have to give you props of coarse J.
