What We Do | StudentVoice StudentVoice is looked after by the Phoenix Education Trust, which seeks to promote democracy in schools. This means everyone having a say, and weight been given to the views of the most important stakeholders in our education system - the students. We work towards this goal through various methods: Working with young people We have a steering group made up of young people (let us know if you want to join!) who help us make decisions about the way we run and what we focus on. Campaigning We don't run campaigns - we support young people to run their own. Training There are a number of skills students can work on to help voicing their views be more effective, and we're keen to help. Research One of our longer-term aims is to conduct research into the effectiveness of student voice and the impact on behaviour, attainment and, most importantly, happiness. < Back to About Us

StartUp Britain: a living market-place for the wide range of enterprise support available on the web. Why the Lean Start-Up Changes Everything Photography: Courtesy of the artist and the Wallace Trust Artwork: Sara Hughes, Download, 2005, acrylic on linen, 1.5 m x 1.5 m, Wallace Trust Collection Launching a new enterprise—whether it’s a tech start-up, a small business, or an initiative within a large corporation—has always been a hit-or-miss proposition. According to the decades-old formula, you write a business plan, pitch it to investors, assemble a team, introduce a product, and start selling as hard as you can. And somewhere in this sequence of events, you’ll probably suffer a fatal setback. The odds are not with you: As new research by Harvard Business School’s Shikhar Ghosh shows, 75% of all start-ups fail. But recently an important countervailing force has emerged, one that can make the process of starting a company less risky. The lean start-up movement hasn’t gone totally mainstream, however, and we have yet to feel its full impact. The Fallacy of the Perfect Business Plan 1.
