10 Most Expensive Photographs in the World 14.07.2013 in Photography Sometimes photographers amaze us with their art, the ability to uniquely reflect the world around us and get a look at it from a different angle. DIY Minimal Business Cards on the Go The ever-clever Mikey Burton has come up with a fun idea that I just may try out. He was asked to participate in the “Designer Challenge” for the October issue of Computer Arts Projects and was tasked to put a new spin on traditional business cards. So his idea was to pare down a card to the absolute essentials: name, website and possibly a stylized bear illustration, and print it in a unique way. What’s really neat about the cards that Burton made was the tool he used: a 3/4″ inspection stamp. Not exactly a paragon of style and modern design, but it works great for this purpose. I was really intrigued by this so I did some research and found a few places that will make fairly affordable, custom inspection stamps, in case anyone is inclined to try this out: 1) Fivestar Rubber Stamp 2) Stamp-Connection 3) Des Moines Stamp Manufacturing (via Mikey Burton)

Playfully Adorable Illustrations That Will Make You Smile Kuala Lampur, Malaysia-based artist Lim Heng Swee loves to doodle. With a bright attitude towards life, he creates adorable illustrations that are playfully paired with funny phrases and word puns. He brings ordinary objects like sheets of paper, pieces of fruit, and pairs of pants alive with personality. Things that don't usually go well together become perfect pairs with good intentions, bright smiles, and sweet sentiments. The clean and modern designs merge colorful shapes with bright, solid backgrounds. The simple illustrations are intended to communicate distinctly positive concepts of hope, love, and good humor. Heng Swee Lim's website via [L'Acte Gratuit] 7 Ingenious DIY Designs You Can Make At Home Samuel Bernier’s Project RE_ is a playful enigma. On the one hand, there is a clear aesthetic thread that runs through each project’s final form--it’s not hard to imagine spending far too much to buy these things at a high-end boutique. On the other hand, they are all made from household objects and the steps to making them are freely available online. It seems that Bernier is at home in this enigma. Project RE_ is an academic work, part of Bernier’s graduation project at the University of Montreal. In keeping with the principles of open source design, step-by-step instructions are available online at Instructables and the 3D printing files and laser cutting data is available at Thingiverse. This is, in a funny way, big business. In the meantime, page through our gallery of Bernier’s designs and see if you can guess what the final result will be, by looking only at the ingredients.

31 Funny Pictures Collection of 31 funny, cool, hilarious and awesome pictures to kill your boredom. Time is a Dimension | Thoughtful Photography Sunset at the Esplanade, 2014. All Rights Reserved. Photography is a medium that is famous for freezing time. The word snapshot suggests that a tiny slice of time is recorded for posterity. But we do know that time is also a dimension, like length, breadth and width. In fact, physicists have a model called space-time: suggesting that time is part of a continuum with the 3 dimensions that we are familiar with. A photographic print is flat, and essentially is made of 2 dimensions: length and width. HDB Rainbow Sunset, 2014. But the print is still an instance. I work in the confines of a photographic print, because I like to do so. Photographic prints are great because they don’t need power to be displayed. So I played around with the tools of digital photography and post processing to give you this series: Time is a dimension. Oriental Pearl Tower Sunset, 2014. The basic structure of a landscape is present in every piece. Similarly, our experience of a scene is more than a snapshot.

Starbucks rolls out wireless charging stations in Silicon Valley Starbucks is introducing wireless charging tables in its Silicon Valley locations. Mobile devices will get a quick boost while you’re sipping your coffee. According to a news release, the coffee giant is outfitting 10 of its Silicon Valley stores with hi-tech Duracell Powermat-equipped tables. In theory, consumers with a wireless charging smartphone or tablet can simply put their device down on a table to top up its battery. “More and more customers are using Starbucks as their home base, and they are looking to recharge in a number of ways,” said Adam Brotman, chief digital officer, Starbucks Coffee Company, in a statement to the press. For both the Boston and San Jose tests, Starbucks is using technology compatible with the Power Matters Alliance (PMA). PMA’s leading rival in Europe and Asia is the wireless standard backed by the Wireless Power Consortium, which is used on the Nexus 7 and current Samsung and Nokia phones.
