Interactive Storytelling: Preparing Students to Innovate This morning I gave a talk in the GDC Education Summit — Interactive Storytelling: Preparing Students to Innovate — and I’m posting my slides below. As for the topic, my talk description ended up being pretty accurate: We want students to create innovative games, but innovation in interactive storytelling can be hard to imagine for students, both undergraduate and graduate. Designing an interactive story isn’t a secret art or a matter of magical technology.

50 Free Fascinating High Resolution Textures and Backgrounds It’s a fact, nobody can get enough textures. It is like collecting stamps, or Photoshop brushes. The inner components of a texture is usually a source of inspiration for new designs or layouts. This is a showcase of 50 free textures that you can use for your personal and commercial designs. At the time of writing, all these textures are licensed under the Creative Commons BY: license which basically allows you to use them in commercial projects, but better be safe than sorry, go and double check the texture download page to see if the license has changed or if the author has special requirements.

English conversation activities for adults: ESL Activities Many of our students say they want to practice their English conversation skills. You can use these English conversation activities to help them do just that and to work on speaking more fluently at the same time. Keep in mind that these activities are not meant to replace a coursebook or textbook, but can be used to supplement it, such as in the last 15 or 20 minutes of class, or as a quick warm-up at the beginning. Conversation Starters– An excellent way to begin your class off is with an interesting question. Chris Crawford on Interactive Storytelling, 2nd Edition As a game designer or new media storyteller, you know that the story is critical to the success of your project. Telling that story interactively is an even greater challenge, one that involves approaching the story from many angles. Here to help you navigate and open your mind to more creative ways of producing your stories is the authority on interactive design and a longtime game development guru, Chris Crawford. To help you in your quest for the truly interactive story, Crawford provides a solid sampling of what works and doesn't work, and how to apply the lessons to your own storytelling projects.

FP7 : ICT : Content and Knowledge : Projects Technologies for Information Management Back to overview Please note that the project factsheet will no longer be updated. textorizer Textorizer allows you to make pictures formed with text. It is best described by the sample images below. Although there are many versions around, the only one that is continuing to supported is this one. Excoffizer takes a picture and produces a vector rendition of the picture, made of parallel lines of varying thickness. Storyplanet review: A promising digital multimedia storytelling tool Storyplanet, a digital reporting platform still in its beta, provides a quick and easy way for a digital reporter to put together a package that contains text, photo, video and audio, which can then be shared on the web or via social media. All for free. My test drive of Storyplanet shows a few bugs and a lack of features that I hope the developer can address in the official release. But I would still recommend that instructors and students adopt this tool in classroom teaching/learning of digital journalism.
