By now you've probably realized that there's no one-size-fits-all instruction manual for social media marketing. I don't know who decided that maintaining engaging social media profiles is the end-all, be-all for online marketing campaigns, but that sure does seem to be the current mindset. Despite this pervasive assumption, plenty of experts are still skeptical of the ability social media has to actually convert sales, and big name advertisers have expressed their doubt as well.

ETTORE SOTTSASS (1917-2007) was a grandee of late 20th century Italian design. Best known as the founder of the early 1980s Memphis collective, he also designed iconic electronic products for Olivetti, as well as beautiful glass and ceramics. Wherever he went, Ettore Sottsass carried a camera to photograph anything that caught his eye. Doors, temples, kitchens, billboards: nothing escaped him. This was a man who took 1,780 photographs on a twelve day trip to South America, who toyed with publishing a book consisting of pictures of walls and for years photographed every hotel room in which he had slept with a woman.

Twit or tweet? Engagement Across Twitter
I was a little bit annoyed this morning; a couple of Twitter followers had stopped following my personal account. Now I, like you, know that Twitter and social media as a whole is not a numbers game - engagement is far more important - so this wasn't what annoyed me. The vexation was caused by yet more Anglers, not fishermen but Twitter Anglers - a type of Twitter user who follows an account for 24/48 hours in the hopes of getting followed back, and if they don't, unfollows before trying again a couple of weeks later – in short, a 'numbers' person for which worth is a secondary consideration. Irritation aside, this did lead me to think further and share a few thoughts about engagement across Twitter, how we keep score and common trends across campaigns. Retweet

There is a lot of confusion and concern over the growing practice of reviewing job candidates’ social media activity during recruitment and selection.
