BMW M3 E30 M3[edit] In contrast to later M3 iterations, the E30 M3 was campaigned by BMW as well as other racing teams including Prodrive and AC Schnitzer competing in many forms of racing including rally as well as German, British, Italian, Belgian, French, and Australian touring. The production of the E30 road car was to homologate the M3 for Group A Touring Car racing. It was to compete with the "2.3-16V"-model of the Mercedes-Benz W201 190E that was introduced in 1983. The E30 M3 road car[edit] The road car engine produced 195 PS (143 kW) with a catalytic convertor and 215 PS (158 kW) without a catalytic converter for the later version. The "Evolution" model (also called "EVO2") produced up to 220 PS (160 kW). Changes from the standard 3-series[edit] Body Suspension Brakes The E30 M3 had special front and rear brake calipers and rotors. Driveline The E30 M3 had one of two Getrag 265 5-speed gearboxes. Wrap up[edit] Production of the original E30 M3 ended in early 1992. E30 performance[edit]

Peugeot 306 Background[edit] The 306 was developed between 1990 and 1992 ready for 1993. It was a replacement for the Peugeot 309 (which had broken with Peugeot's normal ascending numbering system partly due to it being released before the older and larger Peugeot 305 was axed). Mechanically, the 306 is virtually identical to the Citroën ZX, which was launched two years before the 306: both cars use the same floorpan and core structure. 306 Phase 1[edit] A bewildering array of different model types were offered during the life of the Phase 1 model, including Genoa, XSS, X, XT, XRdt and Xd. All variants of the 306, with the exception of the GTI-6 and cabriolet models, were priced very competitively. Petrol engines[edit] Three larger-capacity units were available, but restricted to automatic and performance models. Diesel engines[edit] Chassis design[edit] The familiar range of PSA powertrains drove the front wheels of a seemingly conventionally designed chassis. Bodywork[edit] Versions[edit] Safety[edit]

1996 Mitsubishi Lancer GSR Opel Manta The Opel Manta is a rear-wheel-drive sports coupé motor vehicle built by Opel from 1970 to 1988. Manta A (1970–1975)[edit] The Manta A was released in September 1970, two months ahead of the then new Opel Ascona on which it was based. In the UK market, the first Manta was sold only as an Opel: there was no Vauxhall-branded Manta (or Ascona) until after the launch, in 1975, of the Manta B1 and Ascona B. The sales approach for the Opel line in the U.S. The Manta was normally equipped with a 1.6–1.9-litre CIH engines, although in Europe a small 1.2-litre motor was also offered. In the U.S. In 1973 and 1974 there was also the "Luxus" model which included refinements like corduroy seats, colour-coded interiors (blue or burgundy), and faux wood panelling. In 1975, all Manta and 1900 models were equipped with the Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection in the United States due to emission regulations. The European market had a number of different versions of their own. Manta B (1975–1988)[edit]

How To Make Sure Your Brakes Aren't Going To Suddenly Fail SExpand In case this has become a TL; DR situation, the short of what I'm saying is bullshit, Jalopnik. While the how-brakes-work story is fine, our Jalopnik writers have (at best) been taken in by a badly staged internet photograph. With the above being said, the original (and long) post is: I have a difficult time believing this story. I cannot possibly imagine a scenario where driving a car would do this to a brake rotor. this A situation where an entire face of a brake rotor would wear away, yet the other side still a whole lot of iron left seems far fetched. My guess is that the front face of this rotor was intentionally machined ("turned") until the face was completely worn away. Further, I've seen what happens when a person uses cross-drilled rotors on a race track. Am I crazy here?

Used car review: BMW 318i 1991-1998 Graham ?Smithy? Smith reviews the used BMW 318i 1991-1998, its fine points, its flaws and what to watch for when you? For a blend of performance, handling precision, comfort and refinement it’s hard to go past any of the BMWs of the last 20 years, and of course there’s the prestige that comes with the blue and white spinner badge. They were great driving cars that put the fun back into motoring, cars that were enjoyable to drive, safe and refined, the sort that made you want to get behind the wheel. Today there are plenty of other models from rival car makers that challenge the BMW stars, but few have managed to fully capture the thrill of driving that is part and parcel of the cars from Bavaria. The E36 3-Series launched in 1991 saw a natural progression of the E30. Today the E36 represents an affordable ticket into the BMW driving experience, an attractive car for the young and young at heart. The success of the 3-Series, particularly the E30, wasn’t lost on BMW’s rivals.

Fiat Tempra The Fiat Tempra (Type 159) is a small family car produced by the Italian automaker Fiat from 1990 to 1998. The Tempra was intended as a replacement for the Fiat Regata. The original project was called Tipo 3, being a mid-size car between the Fiat Tipo (project Tipo 2) and the bigger Fiat Croma (project Tipo 4). The Tempra shares its Type Three platform with the Lancia Dedra and Alfa Romeo 155. The Tempra was named the 1991 Semperit Irish Car of the Year in Ireland. Overview[edit] The Tempra saloon was introduced in February 1990 at the Geneva Salon, with the station wagon (marketed as the "Tempra SW") arriving two months later in Turin.[5] The initial engine range comprised 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 petrol units and normally aspirated and turbocharged 1.9-litre diesel units. Mechanics[edit] Fiat Tempra Station Wagon The Tempra's engine range was similar to that of the Tipo. Chassis and main parts (most notably, the doors) were shared with the Fiat Tipo. Equipment and trim levels[edit] Reports[edit]

Fiat Regata Spanish builder SEAT created a similar saloon car from Ritmo underpinnings called the SEAT Málaga. Nevertheless, development for the two cars was separate. 1983[edit] The Regata, unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1983, was developed from the pre-facelift Ritmo (which had been known in United Kingdom and United States markets as the Fiat Strada) and utilised almost all the mechanicals, although the wheelbase was stretched slightly. A conventional four-door three-box design, it bore very little external resemblance to the original Ritmo although it hinted strongly at the look of the 1982 face-lift for that car. In the Swedish market the car was called "Regatta", as Regata was uncomfortably close to a derogatory term for an overbearing woman. The engines offered were also similar, being the 1,301 cc inline-four rated at 68 PS (50 kW; 67 hp) (Regata 70) and the 1,498 cc I4 rated at 82 PS (60 kW; 81 hp) (Regata 85). Fiat 124 The Fiat 124 is a mid-sized family car manufactured and marketed by Fiat between 1966 and 1974. The sedan superseded the Fiat 1300 and Fiat 1500 and was complemented by variants including a station wagon (with stiffened springs and a revised final drive ratio changed),[6] four-seater coupé, two-seater spider convertible and a slightly lengthened and more luxurious version, the 125, launched in early 1967. The 124 is known also as the basis of the Russian-produced Lada produced until 1988 and other licensed variants manufactured worldwide, that when aggregated onto the original Fiat production run, take the 124's overall production at nearly 20 million units, making it the fourth biggest selling single automobile platform of all time. Launch[edit] Engines[edit] Fiat 124 S Power came from a 1.2 L (1,197 cc) Fiat OHV inline-four engine. Foreign production[edit] Soviet Union/Russia[edit] India[edit] 1989 Premier 118NE The Fiat 124 was also introduced in India by Premier Automobiles Limited.

Fiat 131 The Fiat 131, additionally called "Mirafiori", is a small/medium family car produced by the Italian car manufacturer Fiat from 1974 to 1984. It was exhibited at 1974 Turin Motor Show. In total, 1,513,800 units were produced in Italy.[4] Construction and technology[edit] The braking system was also typical; the front brakes were disc brakes, using a solid iron disc and a single-piston sliding caliper. Series 1[edit] In 1976, 500 examples of Fiat 131 Abarth Rallye were built for homologation purposes. SEAT 131 Estate: while built in Spain, estates wore Fiat-badging elsewhere Series 2[edit] The 131 got a minor facelift in 1978. Also in 1978, the 2-door sporting version Racing (Mirafiori Sport in the UK) with 115 PS (85 kW) twin cam engine, was launched. Fiat 131 Marengo, a van version of 131 Series 3[edit] The 131 was updated again in March 1981.[12] By this time, the car was no longer offered in the USA. Ford Escort (Europe) The Ford Escort is a small family car which was manufactured by Ford of Britain and Ford Germany from 1968 to 2002. The Ford Escort name was also applied to several different small cars produced in North America by Ford between 1981 and 2002–03. Ford will relaunch the Ford Escort on the Chinese car market in 2014. The first use of the Escort name was for a reduced specification version of the Ford Squire, a 1950s estate car version of the Ford Anglia 100E, though this did not sell well by comparison to the other members of the 100E family. The Mark I Ford Escort was introduced in the United Kingdom at the end of 1967, making its show debut at Brussels Motor Show in January 1968.[3] It replaced the successful long running Anglia. Just over two months after the launch of the saloon/sedan, Ford announced a three-door station wagon / estate version of their new Escort. The Escort had conventional rear-wheel drive and a four-speed manual gearbox, or 3-speed automatic transmission.

Renault Clio The Renault Clio is a supermini car, produced by the French automobile manufacturer Renault. Originally launched in 1990, it is currently in its fourth generation as of 2012. The Clio has seen substantial critical and commercial success, being consistently one of Europe's top-selling cars since its launch,[1] and it is largely credited with restoring Renault's reputation and stature after a difficult second half of the 1980s. The Clio has been sold as the Renault Lutecia (ルノー ルーテシア, Runō Rūteshia?) Clio I (1990–1998)[edit] The Clio was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in June 1990 and sales in France and the rest of the continent began then, although sales in Britain did not begin until March 1991.
