10 Wordless Videos that Teach Problem Solving - Speech is Beautiful I work in teletherapy, which means that I use a computer to display my materials and activities for my students. I have a couple extremely quiet older elementary students and I decided that video was a way to engage and encourage them to answer questions and retell events. In particular I wanted them to think about solving hypothetical problems. I found 10 WORDLESS videos on YouTube that show interesting problems and make kids think about how to solve a problem — and they have to provide the language! Piper Short Movie — A baby bird finds a way to survive a big wave. Ormie the Pig — A pig attempts to get a jar of cookies off of the top of the fridge. Translating English – WebEnglish.se Translation is still a prevalent method of English language instruction in Sweden, although the last three Curricula (Lgr89, Lpo94 and Lgr11) have tried to implement Communicative Language Teaching instead. Teachers are prone to teaching the same way they were taught, and parents are prone to demanding the same kind of teaching that they were used to at school. Many teachers face strong opposition when they try to implement communicative practices in their classes.

Authors Read For You – Better Reading There’s nothing like a book you loved as a child to bring back sweet memories and to inspire you to dream again! Now you can do more than just read it, you can listen to the author read their stories to you! Do you remember when mum or dad read you an Australian classic or you escaped into the world of Charlotte’s Web reading with a torch under the sheets at night? In a Heartbeat This lesson plan is designed around a short film titled In a Heartbeat and the theme of love. Language level: Intermediate (B1) – Upper Intermediate (B2)

Pronunciation Pronunciation Lessons Intonation - Intonation is the rising and falling sounds of the voice when speaking. Intonation (Part 2) - Phrasing - In addition to the intonation of a statement, there is another aspect of speech that indicates meaning -- phrasing. Intonation (Part 3) - Contrast - Once the intonation of new information is established, you'll soon notice that there is a pattern that breaks that flow. When you want to emphasize one thing over another, you reflect this contrast with pitch change. Intonation (Part 4) - In any language, there are areas of overlap, where one category has a great deal in common with a different category. Collaborative Art Ideas - C.R.A.F.T. Remember when I gave 100+ kids syringes and spray bottles full of watered down paint to create a peice of art earlier this year? Our masterpeice was made for the annual Art of Giving, an event that raised $132,000 for the child life art and music therapy endowment at Dell Children’s Hospital. Local artists and kids collaborate to make art and a local business sponsors each piece. This was my 3rd year to participate in the event. I already signed up to do it again next year! The final part of the Art of Giving is called The Giver Gallery.

This Breathtaking Short Film Shows Exactly How Society Kills Our Creativity From the day we’re born, society imposes on us what to do: go to school, blindly believe what you’re being taught, work hard as a wage slave, obey to authority, and so on, not allowing much room for creativity. The following short yet breathtaking animation film vividly depicts this sad reality of our times, encouraging us to look at things from a different perspective and perhaps contemplate on what it would take to change our current social system so that education, work and play can harmoniously co-exist. If you appreciate what you read here, consider supporting my work.
