How to Create a Million-Dollar Business This Weekend (Examples: AppSumo, Mint, Chihuahuas) Noah Kagan built two multi-million dollar online businesses before turning 28. He also looks great in orange. (Photo: Laughing Squid) I first met Noah Kagan over rain and strong espressos at Red Rock Coffee in Mountain View, CA. It would be the first of many. The matchmaker then introducing us was the prophetic and profane Dave McClure, General Partner of 500 Start-ups, which is now headquartered just down the street from Red Rock. Mr. He was employee #30 at Facebook, #4 at Mint, had previously worked for Intel (where he frequently took naps under his desk), and had turned down a six-figure offer from Yahoo. The purpose of this post is simple: to teach you how to get a $1,000,000 business idea off the ground in one weekend, full of specific tools and tricks that Noah has used himself. He will be your guide… Enter Noah For some reason, people love to make excuses about why they haven’t created their dream business or even gotten started. We made the original product for Gambit in a weekend.

On Decision-Making: Be Resolute and Fail Fast | Filip's thoughts on things In an extended 30-minute video filmed in 2005, Dan Gilbert gives us a few arguments why we make bad decisions. The essence of it comes down to a formula pushed forward in 1739 by the Dutch Daniel Bernoulli. The formula is simple enough: Expected Value = [Odds of Gain] X [Value of Gain] and where we fail is to underestimate/overestimate each of the components in order to make a decision. 1. Two heads are better than one, yet, add one more to it and then there is a deadlock. 2. A half-hearted decision is as good as no decision at all. 3. Proving your strategy does not work could be better than not knowing your strategy’s success or failure. Finally, we need to all live with the responsibility of our decisions. Yet, if things didn’t turn out the right way, despite the resolute, single-minded decision making, Mr. van Gaal would have failed fast, potentially paying with his job, which presumably he would have done had it lost by Costa Rica in regular time. f.

6 Creepy Animal Behaviors That Science Can't Explain #3. Blue Whales Are Experiencing Global Puberty Scientists are a weird lot, and they do some strange stuff in the name of science. Case in point, back in the 60s, some scientists thought it would be cool to stick a bunch of microphones into the oceans of the world and record blue whales singing. Forty years later, someone got the idea to study four decades of whale song, presumably to keep the grant money flowing, when they made a strange discovery: Every blue whale in the world was singing deeper every year. How long has this been going on? They have no idea why, but the whales have been going all Barry White on us for at least 40 years. You'll recognize this as the "Tara Reid Effect." But, they must have a theory for this... Everything from global warming to increased noise pollution has been suggested. The fact that one in three whales has purchased a Barry White album only raises more questions. Noise pollution might be a more reasonable solution. #2. Ants have amazed us for centuries.

Readability-Score.com - Free Online Readability Calculator - Flesch Kincaid, Gunning Fog and more ... Natural Gas? Cows Toot Out Most Methane A new snapshot of U.S. methane emissions in 2004 shows livestock — primarily cattle and pigs — were the country's worst gas emitters at the time. The study also found that livestock expelled 40 percent more methane than had been estimated by the Environmental Protection Agency, a result in agreement with a recently published review of hundreds of emissions studies detailed in the journal Science. The animals also bested the oil and gas industry. "We are very confident that livestock emissions were being underestimated," said lead study author Kevin Wecht, an atmospheric chemist at Harvard University in Massachusetts. Methane is less abundant than carbon dioxide, and disappears faster in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. However, it is more effective at trapping infrared radiation (the greenhouse effect). The new analysis led by Wecht took a broader look, by using satellite monitoring of methane gas levels in the atmosphere over the United States. Natural gas numbers off?
