DaylightMap

DaylightMap shows the pattern of night and day on a Google map, for any area of the Earth, for any date and time. The night-side satellite view includes city lights as seen from orbit. It also allows you to select up to ten locations on the map; in addition to seeing at a glance whether it's daytime there, you can show their local time, sunrise and and sunset times, and length of day. These locations can be remembered for future visits, saved as a bookmark, or sent to other people as a web link. This site can thus function as a graphical world clock, and can be used to show relative times of any future or past event. This particular DaylightMap is highlighting times for .

Spread over terrain which covers the equivalent of 210 football pitches, there is nothing to see behind the security fences and drainage ditches but interminable lines of gleaming, eerily silent, parabolic mirrors. They gyrate simultaneously to follow the sun's path through the sky – for all the world like an enormous Star Wars android army awaiting orders from above to destroy the local populace.

ACT-REACT Quick Map The Clementine UVVIS Ratio (false color) views of the Moon are built by creating ratio images using 3 of the 5 Clementine UVVIS camera bands and combining these into the red, green, and blue channels of a color image: Channel Ratio (band/band) Red = 750 nm/415 nm Green = 750 nm/950 nm Blue = 414 nm/750 nm The color ratio image product serves to cancel out the dominant brightness variations of the scene (controlled by albedo variations and topographic shading) and enhances color differences related to soil mineralogy and maturity. The lunar highlands, mostly old (~4.5 billion years) gabbroic anorthosite rocks, are depicted in shades of red (old) and blue (younger). 'Wikipedia of Maps' Challenges Google OpenStreetMap is exactly what its name implies—a wiki of maps and location data to which anyone can contribute, just like Wikipedia. With the help of some deep-pocketed boosters, including MapQuest and Microsoft, it’s suddenly a legitimate challenger to the hegemony of Maps.Google.Com. Google announced two months ago that it was going to start charging the heaviest users of its Maps API, which countless sites use to geo-locate their data. Then its sales team fanned out to contact those websites, which Google publicly estimated would represent only 0.35 percent of the users of its Maps API. In what seems to have been a surprise to everyone, the prices that Google asked of its heaviest Maps users apparently dwarf the revenue of at least some of those sites, which is leading to a very public move away from Google and to OpenStreetMap.
