Industrial robot sales set to double to 400,000 by 2018 - Drives and Controls Magazine Despite the recent economic downturn in China, its potential remains enormous, according to the IFR. The Federation points out that Chinese production industries currently use just 36 robots per 10,000 employees, compared to 478 in South Korea, 315 in Japan, 292 in Germany and 164 in the US. The IFR estimates that, by 2018, more than a third of new installations of industrial robots will be in China. China and four other markets – Japan, USA, South Korea and Germany – account for 70% of global robot purchases. “Including supporting services, we estimate the global market value in 2014 to be $32bn,” says IFR president, Arturo Baroncelli. “The main driver of this development has been global competition in industrial production.”

Manufacturing embraces the Industrial Internet of Things The high level of interest and hype surrounding the Internet of Things is driven by the proliferation of everyday objects with an Internet connection -- everything from kitchen appliances and household electronics to clothing, vehicles and retail goods. This transition is truly amazing, and developing faster than anyone could have imagined. But in the world of manufacturing, our own version of IoT, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), is a logical extension of automation and connectivity that has been a part of the plant environment for decades, primarily in the area known as machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. The IIoT movement is, of course, growing and expanding at least as fast as the Internet of Things (IoT) in the outside world because smart devices and connected sensors are proliferating in the plant as well. It's conceivable that you can obtain many of the benefits of IIoT without that outside connection. Taking advantage of IIoT

Six of the Best Open Source Data Mining Tools It is rightfully said that data is money in today’s world. Along with the transition to an app-based world comes the exponential growth of data. However, most of the data is unstructured and hence it takes a process and method to extract useful information from the data and transform it into understandable and usable form. ntrolVision - Case Studies and Success Stories in Machine Vision Batch verification at Tip Top Powdered ingredients are a key part of the frozen confectionery manufacturing process. While principal contractor Powder Projects installed a new solution to boost product quality and consistency during mixing, they turned to ControlVision to provide a vision system which would minimise the potential for human error in the dry ingredient adding process. > Read full article Vision guided robotic labelling at Sistema Plastics Sistema's innovative designs are a major part of their appeal, and they continually introduce new products into the market.

How to Test Your Computer’s RAM for Problems Is your computer unstable? There may be a problem with its RAM. To check, you can either use a hidden system tool included with Windows or download and boot a more advanced tool. Both of the below tools function by writing data to each sector of your computer’s RAM and then reading it back in turn. If the tool reads a different value, this indicates that your RAM is faulty. Option 1: Run the Windows Memory Diagnostic Technology Quarterly And the winners are… Innovation awards: Our annual prizes recognise successful innovators in eight categories. Here are this year’s winners Thief in your pocket? Mobile security: When it comes to mobile devices, viruses are not the problem they are made out to be—at least, not yet.

Power Quality content from Electrical Construction When Tesla first introduced the 3-phase alternating current (AC) induction motor in 1888, he knew that his invention was more efficient and reliable than Edison's direct current (DC) motor. However, AC motor speed control requires either varying the magnetic flux or changing the number of poles on the motor. Even decades after the induction motor gained widespread use, changing the frequency for speed control remained an extremely difficult task — and the physical construction of the motor prevented manufacturers from creating motors with more than two speeds. As a result, DC motors were necessary where accurate speed control and significant power output were required. In contrast to AC motor speed control requirements, DC motor speed control was achieved by inserting a rheostat into the low-power DC field circuit, which was feasible with available technology. These simple motor controls varied the speed and torque, and were the most economical way to do so for a number of decades.
