Om Mani Padme Hum: The Meaning of the Mantra in Tibetan Buddhism Glimpsing a Few More Facets of the Mantra There are many ways to understand the meaning of the mantra. Here are a few of them: The Transformation of Speech [An excerpt from The Dharma, by Kalu Rinpoche, from a chapter on The Four Dharmas of Gampopa. ] "The second aspect of transformation [of confusion into wisdom] concerns our speech. Mere words, which have no ultimate reality, can determine our happiness and suffering. In the Vajrayana context, we recite and meditate on mantra, which is enlightened sound, the speech of the [Bhodisattva of Compassion], the union of Sound and Emptiness. At first, the Union of Sound and Emptiness is simply an intellectual concept of what our meditation should be. One of the disciples was very diligent, though his realization was perhaps not so profound. When the two disciples went to their lama to indicate they had finished the practice, he said, 'Oh, you've both done excellently. The Powers of the Six Syllables "Behold! H.H. top of page

Meditation 101: Grounding, Centering and Shielding Before you meditate, or do other spiritual work such as energy healings, divination or magick, you should prepare and protect yourself. You do this by grounding yourself, centering your energies, and shielding yourself from unwanted influences. Centering: Centering is simply returning all of your scattered energies to home base. Usually throughout the day, you have little energy tendrils out doing things while you are attending to business. Perhaps you are writing a report, but one 'eye' is on the clock, because you have a meeting coming up, and a fragment of your attention is thinking about your children, since one was sniffling this morning, and you also have a fraction of your mind drafting a letter of resignation you know you'll never send. To center yourself, call in all your scattered bits of attention and focus, and bring them into your body's space. Grounding: Imagine you are standing in your bare feet on the ground. Shielding:

A technique to relax quickly. (article) - StumbleUpon HERE'S A TECHNIQUE for getting into a relaxed, sometimes even blissful state quickly. I found it in the book, Richard Hittleman's Yoga: 28 Day Exercise Plan. He calls the technique Alternate Nostril Breathing. 1. Breathe in and out as quietly as you can. This seems a lot more complicated than it is. This technique occupies your mind. It is a scientific fact that your nostrils normally change dominance. Apparently this shift back and forth every 90 to 120 minutes is associated with brain hemisphere dominance. I'm speculating now, but it's possible that alternate breathing balances the activity of the two hemispheres of your brain so that neither is dominating the other. To make it easier to do this exercise, here is the technique in condensed form: Each in, out, and hold is done to a count of eight (approximately one second per count). You can do a less complex version of this.

19 Quotations Carol Tuttle | Chakra Healing | Take the Chakra Test and Open Your 7 Chakras Its not all aboute you From Los Angeles Times: It's not all about you Chances are, others aren't judging you as harshly as you think, if at all. By Benedict Carey Times Staff Writer January 13, 2003 Oh, things sure took a bad turn. Take a deep breath. A growing body of research shows that far fewer people notice our gaffes than we believe as we pace the floor in private, going over and over the faux pas. Learning to recognize this self-deception can soothe the anxiety that surrounds social interactions. The spotlight effect blinds us in several ways. A pioneer in this field, Tom Gilovich, a psychologist at Cornell, has demonstrated the same exaggerated misperceptions in several situations, such as group discussions about social issues. The findings apply to most of us, of course, but not to everybody -- some people really do live under a microscope, as a chosen way of life. Most of the time a mistake is just a mistake, not a death sentence. Yet we don't expect that same empathy for ourselves.
