Five Best Mind Mapping Tools

Five Best Mind Mapping Tools
I used to use MindJet's program about 7 years ago. I bought a license for several hundred dollars and then paid for an upgrade or two (not cheap). I left it when it became increasingly hard to use keyboard commands and accelerators to do basic functionality. You'd always have to hunt with a mouse for certain things. I'm sure that they've changed that since then, but their priorities on making the interface more Windows Ribbony as opposed to raw functionality showed me that the product was getting some bad product management prioritization. Freemind, on the other hand, allows me to look at the person I'm talking to and to touch type my notes without looking at the keyboard or mouse.

The concept was brought into the mainstream by Tony Buzan and is based on patterns found in nature, and on research on how humans think and how the brain works. In “How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci”, Michael J. Gelb explains that by using mind mapping regularly, you can train yourself to be a more balanced thinker, like da Vinci. Gelb adds that mind mapping stimulates both brain hemispheres: it lets you develop a logical sequence and detailed organization of your material, while encouraging imagination and spontaneity.

Over the last 12 months I have conducted countless productivity experiments on myself, interviewed some of the most productive people in the world, and read a ton of books and academic literature on productivity, all to explore how I could become as productive as possible, and then write about the lessons I learned.
