Ads Worth Spreading Ads honored through Ads Worth Spreading can be as long as it takes to communicate the idea powerfully, up to five minutes, whether that’s through state-of-the-art animation, lush imagery or an individual talking directly to the camera. What matters is the “a-ha” moment -- the central idea. The thing that makes consumers connect to the idea in the same way that TED speakers connect with their audience. Ads Worth Spreading began as a clarion call to the global advertising community in 2011, asking for ads that inspired and engaged audiences. In 2013, six nomination teams of two – made up of one renowned TED speaker and one rising star from the advertising industry – nominated compelling ads from diverse areas of interest: Talk, Social Good, Cultural Compass, Creative Wonder, Brand Bravery and Education. Over the last two years, the search for compelling campaigns with strong ideas provided the opportunity to think about advertising differently. This is not an award show.

President Barack Obama State of the Union 2013 speech (full text, video) President Barack Obama's speech for the 2013 State of the Union address, as prepared for delivery and provided by the White House. Story Continued Below Mr. Fifty-one years ago, John F. ( Also on POLITICO: Full coverage of the State of the Union) Tonight, thanks to the grit and determination of the American people, there is much progress to report. Together, we have cleared away the rubble of crisis, and can say with renewed confidence that the state of our union is stronger. But we gather here knowing that there are millions of Americans whose hard work and dedication have not yet been rewarded. It is our generation’s task, then, to reignite the true engine of America’s economic growth – a rising, thriving middle class. ( PHOTOS: Scenes from Obama State of the Union 2013) The American people don’t expect government to solve every problem. Our work must begin by making some basic decisions about our budget – decisions that will have a huge impact on the strength of our recovery.

Diary of a Suburban Squeen Title: TelenovelaAuthor: chaletianFandom: Star Trek XIRating: PGSpoilers: NoneSummary: Further to the whole damn “village!verse”, as I am humorously calling it, Chekov expects a little more melodrama than even Enterprise can provide.Author’s Note: OK. Yes. This is basically in homage to my own love for ridiculous teen dramas (ah, Dawson’s Creek… The OC… Gossip Girl… my own personal hilarious favourite, One Tree Hill…). What Really Happens When You Call 911? | Your Mind Your Body While not popular to talk about, suicide is a sad reality in our society. The Centers for Disease Control estimated that more than 32,000 Americans died as a result of suicide in 2004. And contrary to some of our stereotypes about suicide, it occurs in all age groups, not just teenagers. Men, women, children, adults, older adults, and all ethnic and cultural groups can be at risk for developing suicidal thoughts or ideations, making it important for all health care practitioners and consumers, parents, teachers, children, and friends to know something about what to do when/if these thoughts come up. I talk to folks in my practice on a regular basis about having a safety plan – i.e. what steps to take if they feel like they are in imminent danger of hurting or killing themselves. What I have realized over the years, is that often people are afraid to call 911 or go to the hospital (even when they really need to) because they don’t know what to expect. What generally happens is:

i've got extra space (in my car, in my heart, in my mind) - asinfastmovies - One Direction (Band) When Zayn throws a pebble at Niall's window at ten past three in the morning, tells Niall to pack a bag and come with him, Niall doesn't ask. He stuffs a backpack with trousers, jumpers and a clean pair of pants and fishes the crumple of bills from the trainers he outgrew in year eight. He whispers "Oi catch!" Zayn's parked around the block because his car makes too much of a racket for him to safely stop it outside Niall's house. Zayn's car's got manual locks so Niall taps his fingers on the passenger side window, waits for Zayn to crawl across the seat and shove the door open, and then he climbs in and tosses his bag into the backseat. It's colder in the car than outside and Niall tucks his hands under his legs, watches Zayn start the car and crank the heat, glances at the dash and sees that it's only fueled up about halfway, tries to calculate how far they'll make it before they need to stop for petrol. He jerks a thumb over his shoulder and then swings the door open and steps out.

Does The Dog Die? #TubeClash - The Movie There are "wookies" in the movie that look little like the ones in Star Wars, but are more like cute little fuzzballs. One of them is killed by a character by being cut in half, being mistaken for a monster. It however comes back to life as a zombie and appears as such for the rest of the movie and its sequels. So despite being killed, it is undead for most of its on-screen time and still has its consciousness. There are also other zombie wookies, but we don't see them die. 10 Cloverfield Lane Two dead pigs, named Frank and Mildred, are seen briefly (they are never shown alive). 13 Cameras A newlywed couple have no idea their grim, lascivious landlord has been spying on them since they moved in. 2 Guns Chickens are buried up to their necks in the ground and their heads are shot off. 2012 The dog (a Japanese Chin) does not die. 21 Up Documentary. 24 Hour Party People Three thousand pigeons are killed by being fed poisoned bread. 28 Up Documentary.

Profile: Lost Girl’s Anna Silk The Erotic Education of Anna Silk: the Lost Girl star on playing a bisexual succubus By Emily Landau | Photography by Jessica Haye and Clark Hsiao A woman in a leather miniskirt and stilettos staggers down a darkened corridor and rings the buzzer beside a bolted door. The man inside interrupts his bare-chested boxing workout to let her in. “I’m busy,” he grumbles. The woman is Anna Silk, star of the Toronto-produced Showcase fantasy series Lost Girl, and her scene partner is the absurdly chiselled Kris Holden-Ried, who plays her wolf-man lover Dyson. Since it premiered two years ago, Lost Girl has become an international hit. These aren’t just casual viewers: Lost Girl is the kind of show that inspires obsessive, all-consuming fandom. Lost Girl capitalizes on the contemporary sci-fi/fantasy formula established by Buffy the Vampire Slayer—hardcore heroine, elaborate mythology, monster of the week. Silk stayed in New Brunswick for university, majoring in psychology at St.

Garcetti, Greuel throw jabs in their first LA mayoral debate | Represent! In a relatively tame debate, Los Angeles City Councilman Eric Garcetti and City Controller Wendy Greuel engaged in light sparring more than heavy punching Thursday night at American Jewish University in L.A. “I am not the chosen candidate of the downtown power brokers,” said Garcetti, referring to how Greuel has been the beneficiary of nearly $3 million in spending by city labor unions. “That is a difference that allows me to be independent.” Greuel said the support of both city labor unions and the L.A. “I am proud of the diverse support that I’ve had,” she said. Both are city hall insiders and longtime Democrats, but they sought to dispel the widespread sentiment among voters that there is not a lot of difference between them. “We are not identical,” Garcetti implored. “We are different,” Greuel said. Garcetti focused on economic development in his Hollywood council district, and his efforts at pension reform as president of the city council. “That’d be $6 million," said Greuel.

W.B. Yeats This is a small selection of Yeats's poetry published by me, Martin Hardcastle. To ask me a question or send me a comment, please read this. There are many Yeats pages on the Web. The one I used to recommend has vanished, presumably because of copyright restrictions, but here is another (with all the poems) and here is a gopher-based site which also has a very large selection. (Thanks to Chris Ienni for pointing out that the old link didn't work.) Here is a note about Yeats copyright. Go to my poetry page for links to more poems, or to findpoetry.com. Are We Alone? | The Huffington Post It goes back to the starfish. That’s when the light bulb really popped over my head. We’d found one on the beach and I was struck by what astonishing creatures they are, talking with Dad about how they regenerate. Mind blown. A few years before then, I’d recorded a message for potential extraterrestrial civilizations to discover. It’s fair to say I didn’t fully understand what aliens were at the time. Now, all these years later, I’m a science fiction writer, having explored the dynamics of making contact with alien civilizations in episodes of Star Trek, one of my novels, and most recently a show at Chicago’s Adler Planetarium. Of course, that could all change in an instant. Are we alone? With so many places for life to exist, we may be closer to finding E.T. than ever before. Maybe together we’ll find the answer. States Await Supreme Court Hearing on Arizona Immigration Law Constitutional lawyers on both sides of the argument say the case raises fundamental questions about federal powers. With the strong conservative bent the court has shown this session, a distinct possibility has emerged that the justices could uphold at least some of the Arizona law’s contested sections, going against the trend in the lower courts on the core legal issues. The Arizona case, lawyers said, could lead the Supreme Court to redraw long-established boundaries between the federal government and the states when it comes to immigration enforcement, which has been considered a nearly exclusive federal preserve. If the court endorses any part of Arizona’s approach, it would provide a big lift to groups that campaign against illegal immigration, which have clamored for tough action by states, saying the federal government has failed to do its part. Arizona’s supporters say the state is well within its rights to enact a measure that they say would help, not hinder, federal agents.
