How your boss gives you unsolicited career advice, based on his own (self-proclaimed) stellar career? Welcome to the age of the Everyday Expert. Facebook and other social media platforms have ushered in an age of hyper-sharing, making knowledge more accessible than ever. This social media explosion means that more content is reaching more people than ever before. In this new world of democratized expertise, who are we supposed to believe? 1. Before you listen, consider whether their success was specific to their unique circumstances or more generalizable. 2. Consider whether the masses are right, or whether they’re missing something fundamentally important. 3. Before you take their advice, ask yourself how closely the future will mimic the past, and how much confidence you have in prediction. 4. 5. Consider which direction causality flows or whether it even exists.

Web Analytics in Real Time Facebook is Killing Local Social Networks around the World Vincenzo Cosenza, an Italian digital strategist, who has shared his social media research with us in the past has just published a new edition of his World Map of Social Networks. The map gives us a closer look at the global popularity of various social networks, and unsurprisingly, Facebook comes out at the top of the list. The social network has secured the number one spot in 127 countries out of the total 136 countries in the list. The map offers a great visualization of Facebook’s dominance, throughout North and South America, most of Africa, Europe, Australia and part of Asia. With over 800 million active users, a number that continues to grow, Facebook is continuing to make its away across the world map, taking the place of local offerings or other international competitors. Russia has shown a little bit more resistance than other countries to Facebook, with two local networks, V Kontakte and Odnoklassniki battling for social media users’ attention.

Six Social Media Trends for 2012 - David Armano by David Armano | 10:25 AM December 12, 2011 Each year at this time, I look forward and predict trends in social media for the coming year. But first, I look back at my predictions from last year. Social media continues to move forward toward business integration, a trend that I identified last year. I was also partially accurate in predicting that Google would “strike back” in 2011. I had one big swing-and-miss on Facebook’s intrusion in the location-based services war. So what can we expect in 2012 in a world that seems to grow ever connected by the hour? Convergence Emergence. The Cult of Influence. Gamification Nation. Social Sharing. Social Television. The Micro Economy. These are a few emerging trends which come to mind.
