Babe Ruth - Home A Visual Representation Of The Relationship Between Science And Music | SF Globe Nigel John Stanford is a musician from New Zealand who is well-known for his work in the genres of Ambient and New Age music. In the video below, you can see a range of his musical abilities as he plays both a drum set and a piano while also rigging makeshift instruments from things like playing cards. This video is entitled 'Cymatics,' and cymatics is the science of creating visualizations of audio frequencies. On his website, Stanford explains how he became interested in visualizing sound: "In 1999 I watched a documentary on 'Synesthesia' - a disorder that effects the audio and visual functions of the brain. This got me thinking that it would be cool to make a music video where every time a sound plays, you see a corresponding visual element. Though it took Stanford quite some time to acquire all of the parts required to pull off this incredible series of experiments, he had only two days to film all the different pieces.

Poised: Derby stage set for Rosie Napravnik's charge at history | 2013 Kentucky Oaks & Derby | May 3 and 4, 2013 Rosie Napravnik (photo by: Liam Spradlin) Call Rosie Napravnik what you will – a trail blazer, a pioneer, a woman of extraordinary talents – but first there's this: The reason Napravnik is such a compelling story in the run-up to the Kentucky Derby has little to do with her gender and everything to do with the fact she is one of the world's best jockeys. So while Napravnik will try to strike a blow for aspiring female riders everywhere when she pilots Mylute in the Kentucky Derby – no woman has ever ridden a Derby winner – she also will try to do justice to the art and craft of race-riding. In the crucible of the Kentucky Derby, when split-second decisions can separate winners from also-rans, will Napravnik have the wherewithal to succeed? About that, horsemen say, there is little doubt. It probably goes without saying that Tom Amoss, the trainer of Mylute, is a big Napravnik fan. “Her biggest strength is tremendous knowledge of pace,” Amoss said.

DOEA Long Term Care Ombudsman Program Ombudsmen Persist in Efforts to Bring About Positive Change for Florida’s Long-Term Care Facility Residents By Jim Crochet State Long-Term Care Ombudsman I wish to bring to your attention inaccurate information that has been floating around regarding the operation of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program and the work of the program’s 300 plus volunteers. Some of you may be aware of two recent opinion pieces run in the Treasure Coast (TC) Palm titled “Families Feel Powerless Against Elder Abuse” and “Our Seniors are at Even Greater Risk.” I would like to clarify some information written in these opinion pieces. The duties, responsibilities, and advocacy work of the program has not changed. It would be a shame if that fine work was stained by inaccurate information in an attempt to derail our program. There are over 168,000 beds in Florida’s long-term care facilities with residents served by countless donated hours of our selfless volunteer ombudsmen. And the year is far from over.
