DIY Floral Sunglasses We always claim to see the world through rose colored glasses . . . but how about rose trimmed glasses? In honor of the widespread floral trend and our love of Dolce & Gabbana‘s Baroque-inspired fall collection, we’re DIYing a pair of outrageously fabulous sunglasses using the same charming little ceramic roses from a recent tutorial. These will surely be a pair of shades you won’t go unnoticed in this summer! You’ll need:a pair of sunglassesa variety of ceramic roses and flowersdisposable container or popsicle sticka handful of toothpicksE6000 Start by squeezing a small amount of E6000 into a disposable container or onto a wooden popsicle stick. I like to use a small amount at a time, as the glue tends to dry quickly. Press the flower firmly onto the outer corner of the sunglasses. Add a few small flowers down the right side of the glasses. Repeat on the other side and allow to dry for a couple of hours. Your floral shades are ready to wear!
All Natural Lip Balm The week leading up to the new year wasn't exactly how I had pictured it. It was the last week of the boys winter break. I had envisioned walks around downtown looking at the lights, taking down the Christmas tree together, continuing our holiday baking marathon and maybe even a little post Christmas mall browsing. But alas, none of those things happened. The flu happened. Thankfully, I had made a big batch of lip balm the week before Christmas to give as little handmade gifts to my girlfriends. This recipe is super simple. The recipe came from this blog last year and I tweaked it a bit and she grabbed it from this book where she had tweaked it a bit. Sweet Orange Lip Balm 8 Tablespoons Coconut Oil 3 Tablespoons Beeswax 1.5 Tablespoons Raw Honey 30 drops Sweet Orange essential oil (if you want color) 1/2 stick of natural lipstick (I like Jane Iredale and Josie Moran) Place oil, beeswax and honey in a double boiler (or heatproof bowl resting on top of a small saucepan of simmering water).
DIY: Mason Jar Vases Over the weekend I decided to spruce up some old mason jars. I first saw these on Pinterest and then discovered this DIY and basically fell in love with the idea. Who knew that with a little spray paint you could give an old jar a completely new look? Here's how to make your own... DIY Animal Bookend I have been dying to make a plastic animal bookend. The kids love books so we are always in need of bookends around here. I first saw this idea from Cassie over at Hi Sugarplum, and have since seen it done several different ways on Pinterest. (If you have done this yourself or have seen a favorite version online feel free to link it below!) Here’s my cute little hippo before. And after a little spray paint and a piece of scrap wood: I used a high-gloss paint and unfortunately the paint bubbled up. The funny thing is, my kids will still play with it like it’s a toy. Hmm. Gracie's Graffiti Jeans--A Tutorial I am loving all the printed jeans I’ve seen lately…and I really wanted to make some for Grace. So this week when I was out and about I bought a really inexpensive pair of jeans and a bleach pen and went to work. There are several ideas that I wanted to try that involve bleach but I started with graffiti. Actually the idea was originally to make one of the leg panels look like the subway art that is everywhere but then I decided—it is everywhere—it doesn’t need to be on Gracie’s pants as well. SO I went with a more graffiti style panel instead. The first thing I did was trace the shape of one of the legs onto some brown paper that I had. Next I started drawing out Grace’s name and two of her favorite things (hearts and polka dots) all over it. (Sorry I didn’t do it in a super clever way…I’m just old fashioned like that…a pencil and winging it…which means if I can do it you can do it to.) After I had everything all drawn out I took my bleach pen and traced over the lines. #1. #2. #3. #4.
DIY tutorial: sand art terrariums » kellybutton after researching and finding out there were different kind of terrariums i could make i read about the sand terrariums. they look best with a cactus inside to create a sort of desert-y feel! i loved the look of it and made me think of making sand art as a little kid. i was inspired! i had SO much fun with this project. it’s super easy to do.. you just need some supplies that most likely aren’t laying around the house. i found everything i needed at michael’s (minus the plants!) i bought my adorable plants as redenta’s garden in lakewood. they’ve got a beautiful selection and the prices aren’t bad! they also had the most amazing terrarium cases. i can’t wait to make more! after many minutes of deliberation i decided on a baby cactus (i wanted one that was very young so i can watch it grow! i had originally planned on sticking the little deer inside it but after trying it they just didn’t belong in a desert theme haha. maybe for the next one!
