Top 5 Ways To Optimize your Twitter Network | Tech N’ Marketing Posted on 02. Aug, 2009 by hilzfuld in Web inShare3 As you know, I am a big believer in Twitter and its potential as the future of online communication. Let me answer that question with one golden rule of how NOT to get more followers! The people who use Twitter properly, to communicate with others while contributing quality content, are not going to be using these services to find people to follow! OK, so no follower services, then how DO you build your network effectively? Here are 5 SEO principles you should use while Tweeting if you want to see the best results: 1: Relevant Titles: Like I have said on many occasions, you need to define yourself and what you are presenting, before even sending out your first tweet. When it comes to Twitter, your title should appear in the first 5 words of your bio, so anyone who comes across your profile, knows immediately whether to follow you or to move on. 5: Inbound Links: Someone once told me that SEO is a lot like the restaurant industry! -Hillel

Google’s real time SEO ranking factors for Twitter | Blog Google’s recent move into real-time search has generated a lot noise in the internet industry recently, not least among the SEO professionals. The search engine is now indexing tweets from Twitter and other status updates from other social media sites, including Myspace and Facebook. Most of the time real time results are currently displayed on the top half of the page, which is prime real estate, and as such SEOs are keen to understand what makes Google tick. Today, I spotted an article in Technology Review (hat tip to @rorybrown) that explains a little bit about how Google chooses real time results. It turns out that it works rather like PageRank, where links from other sites help determine rankings. Like PageRank, Google doesn’t simply look at volume or popularity measures, but rather reputation. "As high-quality pages link to another page on the Web, the quality of the linked-to page goes up. Of course, not all ranking factors are positive. Keywords. Unique content. Recency. Age.

8 digital pros worth following on Twitter Here's a confession about Twitter: I follow, but I do not tweet. That is, I regularly read the bite-sized blurbs that have become so ubiquitous these days, but I rarely contribute anything of my own to the Twitter community. I do this because Twitter is a fantastic information filter for those looking to stay informed, even if its strength as a marketing tool is still debatable. Why do I mention this? I usually get a blank stare. So who's worth following? Building your "follow" list is always a work in progress, but the names below are certainly a good starting place for anyone working in digital. Oh, and for those who are a little intimidated by all the funny lingo and symbols on Twitter, cruise on over to BusinessWeek to read its humorous, but helpful, glossary of common Twitter terms.

10 Stunning (And Useful) Stats About Twitter UPDATE: Follow me at @rohitbhargava if you liked this post! Last month a social media analytics provider named Sysomos released a comprehensive report on Twitter usage. The problem with most analysis on Twitter, though, is that it is limited by the minimal amount of data that Twitter collects. So, to fill the gaps, most reports do things like guessing gender based on real names or pulling data from keywords in people's biographic information. Looking past these small points, the report does share some fairly interesting observations and stats as well if you dig a bit deeper. 21% (One Fifth) of Twitter accounts are empty placeholders. Twitter is being led by the social media geeks.

Ten Twitter Mythconceptions | Technologizer Poor Twitter! It may be the hottest service on the Web, but it’s also profoundly misunderstood. Lots of people cheerfully admit they don’t get it. Others emphatically believe things about it that aren’t true. I encounter confusion over Twitter every day, especially in the real world as I chat with folks who have either never used it, or have tried it and then walked away. It also pops up on Twitter itself (where, incidentally, I’m @harrymccracken and a feed of all Technologizer stories is available at @technologizer). I don’t claim to understand everything there is to understand about Twitter. Mythconception #1: Twitter is something utterly new. Reality: I’m not sure if I’ve convinced a single soul of this, but I stubbornly maintain that Twitter is a whole lot like the CompuServe forums that were once the dominant hub for online discussion–it’s just tweets are faster, shorter, and more flexible. Mythconception #3: People who tweet what they had for breakfast are wasting your time.
