Google hacking master list This master list of Google Hacking command sets has show up on a forum in Russia, as well as on Scribd. While we often forget about Google hacking, and rarely use it against our own sites, a list like this is going to keep the kids happy as they merrily pound their way through Google to your systems. This makes the data much more accessible than at Johnny I hack stuff. There are some drawbacks in how Johnny I hack stuff works, you have to do a lot of clicking to get to the right hacks. This master list also includes things I have not seen or tried yet meaning that the body of knowledge for Google hacks is still being expanded upon. It has been a while since a really good Google hack has come out, but this list promises to keep me busy for a while.

PowerMeter We launched Google PowerMeter as a free energy monitoring tool to raise awareness about the importance of giving people access to their energy information. PowerMeter included key features like visualizations of your energy usage, the ability share information with others, and personalized recommendations to save energy. We partnered with device manufacturers and utilities around the world. RSS RSS (Rich Site Summary); originally RDF Site Summary; often dubbed Really Simple Syndication, uses a family of standard web feed formats[2] to publish frequently updated information: blog entries, news headlines, audio, video. An RSS document (called "feed", "web feed",[3] or "channel") includes full or summarized text, and metadata, like publishing date and author's name. RSS feeds enable publishers to syndicate data automatically. A standard XML file format ensures compatibility with many different machines/programs. RSS feeds also benefit users who want to receive timely updates from favourite websites or to aggregate data from many sites.

Agile Design: An Ethos for Creating Learning Platforms Software design and related practices and methods have had a significant influence over the Instructional Design field. For example, ADDIE, Dick and Carey, and Rapid Prototyping are heavily influenced by software development methodologies (Rawsthorne, 2005). Software design methodology is now going through another paradigm shift — Agile Design. And rather than being a methodology, it is more a philosophy or ethos that is best described by its manifesto (Agile Alliance, 2001):

What would your curriculum look like? Since September, I have been living & working on the beautiful island of St Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean. St Helena is roughly 4,500 miles from the UK, 3,000 miles from South Africa, and as such has a valid claim to the title of ‘remotest island in the world’. Geographically isolated though it is, the island is home to around 4,000 extraordinary people – 600 of whom are in full-time education, either at the high school or one of the three primary schools. My title is Advisory Teacher of ICT, with the following remit: Teaching ICT & Enterprise across key stages 3 to 5Leading the ICT departmentOne day’s outreach per week in the primary schools to advise on ICT curriculumTraining & mentoring for trainee teachersTeaching & learning coaching for colleagues Anyone who knows me will understand when reading that list just how much of a ball I’m having here, but this is just context for the crux of this blog post.

3 Ways to Use Wordle for More Than Fluff The visual word clouds created by Wordle and other word cloud services on the web aren’t anything new, they’ve been around for a few years. However, like a great many newer web 2.0 tools, I quite often see a lot of ineffective use of these tools in the classroom. That’s not to say I think the teachers themselves are ineffective, in fact it’s usually the most tech savvy and educational effective teachers that are using tools like Wordle. However, as even these tech savvy teachers keep up with the changing landscape of educational tools, not enough time is often available to closely examine a new website to carefully dissect what the tool is capable of, and how it might be used most effectively. Too often a larger number of teachers get caught up in the “wow” factor of some great new ability of the read/write web (does anyone still use that term anymore?)
