FIrst of all, let me start by saying that my first rat was a pet store rat. The main reason I discourage buying from pet stores is because you dont know anything about their line and even if the animal seems healthy when you get it, it could be carrying something that can shorten their life and really cause a painful illness to result from whatever they may carry. So please think long and hard about buying from a pet store. Rescue and adoption I am a strong advocate in rescues of shelter animals. Bo the Grumpy old man! Another option is a good rat breeder.
