Photorealistic Charcoal Drawings of Epic Waves Though artwork created in Photoshop or Illustrator can be nothing short of extraordinary, sometimes it's more impressive to see pieces created by more traditional means. Brooklyn-based artist Robert Longo made these incredible drawings of massive, thundering waves using just charcoal (on mounted paper). Called Monsters, the drawings almost look like black and white photos of that crescendo moment before an epic wave breaks. I like what Metro Picture Gallery said about them: "Devoid of people, location and color, the looming crests of exploding power are notably singular portraits of emotional and physical forces. The near abstraction of the waves is strikingly dissimilar to the more familiar representations of the sea as poetic and romantic, or in terms of man against nature."

Happy New Year Art Nouveau 2012 Happy New Year to all of my fellow Art Nouveau admirers! Here are some Tumblr images that have caught my eye so far in 2012...they are a little random! Dirk Dzimirsky And to think, the only Dirk we knew works in Dallas. We ran across these beautiful drawings by Dirk Dzimirsky last night, and as much as we love how he composes faces, we love the way he captures water and movement around the subject's face. Dirk is a freelance illustrator and author based in Germany. Dirk says of his work, "I want to capture and describe a persons precence and specific inner self. Similar to what a detailed writer might employ in their analysis of an individual, I portray not only the physical attributes, but more importantly the subjects inner presence of life." (via)

{Jana Brike art} official page yago's web Juan Francisco Casas creates realistic images using BIC Pens EmailEmail At first sight they may look like some pretty sharp blue photographs, however all those pictures are actually hand drawn with a simple Bic ballpoint pen! Spanish artist Juan Francisco Casas uses up to four 14p ballpoint pens to create his incredibly photorealistic drawings, measuring up to 10ft (3 meters) high. The use of penballs makes Juan’s drawings even more original, which certainly has played a big role in his way to success, and his works are already a sell-out at exhibitions. His source of inspiration comes from his own photographs of nights out with his friends, so you can only imagine how wild his parties are, as half of his drawings include girls that forgot to put on their clothes. juliandenarvaez New set of posters made for ADNEditorial Design, Illustration, Print Design2013 I had the pleasure once again of working with Folio art to produce the illustrations for this Douglas and gordon campaign. Special thanks to Chris Belson from Folio Art, for all his hard work and excellent management, and to Ellie Kingsbury also from Folio Art, for always being ready to collaborate. Drawing, Illustration2013 PAPA SANGRE It was really nice to illustrate this amazing application game in which I work with with two wonderful creative teams, Folio art and Something Else. Papa Sangre is a video game with no video. It’s a first-person thriller, done entirely in audio by an award-winning team of game designers, musicians, sound designers and developers. We’ve created an entire world using the first ever real-time 3D audio engine implemented on a handheld device—an almost impossible feat. Illustration, Visual Arts

MotionPhone released for iPad and iPhone « Snibbe App Store MotionPhone App Enables a new Form of Visual Communication San Francisco, April 19, 2012 MotionPhone, a new app for the iPhone and iPad, enables a unique form of visual communication, allowing people to create animations together on iPads and iPhones. In MotionPhone, fingers’ movements become colorful dancing abstract shapes whose personality comes directly from the way one moves. As its name suggests, MotionPhone is more than an animation program. The app was originally an interactive artwork that Snibbe says evolved from his days in college studying animation and computer science. The program eventually found the attention of art curators in the 1990s, winning a Prix Ars Electronica prize—sometimes referred to as the ‘Academy Awards’ of interactive art. MotionPhone takes the same social gaming technology that lets you play Scrabble with your friends—Apple’s Game Kit—and uses the system for collaborative play and communication, much like parlor games of the 19th century.

Diego Fazo creates photo-realistic drawings with charcoal pencil At just 22 years old, Italian artist Diego Fazo has developed the skill to create photo-realistic drawings using a simple charcoal pencil. His latest creation, pictured below, has drawn hundreds of positive comments on his Deviant Art profile. Don’t tell me you can tell the image below is a drawing and not a high-definition photograph, because I don’t buy it. In fact people were so skeptical this incredible piece of art was drawn by hand that young Diego Fazo had to put up some photos of the work in progress just to lay doubts to rest. And looking at his-mind-blowing masterpiece, can you really blame people for questioning it’s hand-drawn? Like other talented artists who started their careers on Deviant Art, Diego is a self-taught pencil master whose technique matured with the passing of the years. Scroll down for more of his awesome drawings, and check out his Deviant Art profile, as well. Reddit Stumble
