Best Movies to Watch: 100 Must See Movies For Men
For whatever reason (most likely the fact that viewing is easier than reading), films don’t seem to get the same kind of cultural respect as books do. Which is a shame because excellent movies can be just as entertaining, mind-expanding, and life changing as good books. Scenes, characters, and quotes from the greatest movies stay with us long after we view them. Their ability to transport you to different times and exotic locations, to completely absorb you in the story, make movies one of the closest approximations of real magic we have in this world. And for better and for worse, film has had a huge impact on masculinity in the 20th Century. We didn’t want to make a list of movies that consisted solely of violence and gratuitous T and A that make up most guy movie lists. Let us know in the comments which movies you loved, which ones you hated, and the movies you think every man should see before he dies. No. 1: ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ – Top 20 Movies of 2012 ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ may be the more important film, but this is the one I’m going to watch again and again until the day I die. It captures the excitement and sadness of youth in ways both buoyant and restrained. The 16mm look, the music, the costumes, the camera moves and Bob Balaban’s Greek Chorus are just a few of ‘Moonrise Kingdom’s charms. Wes Anderson’s entire career has been building to this one and he knocked it out of the park. Read the ScreenCrush.com review of ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ Best part: What kind of bird are YOU? Martin Scorsese's Film School: The 85 Films You Need To See To Know Anything About Film Interviewing Martin Scorsese is like taking a master class in film. Fast Company’s four-hour interview with the director for the December-January cover story was ostensibly about his career, and how he had been able to stay so creative through years of battling studios. But the Hugo director punctuated everything he said with references to movies: 85 of them, in fact, all listed below. Some of the movies he discussed (note: the descriptions for these are below in quotes, denoting his own words). Others he just mentioned (noted below with short plot descriptions and no quotes). Ace in the Hole: “This Billy Wilder film was so tough and brutal in its cynicism that it died a sudden death at the box office, and they re-released it under the title Big Carnival, which didn’t help. All That Heaven Allows: In this Douglas Sirk melodrama, Rock Hudson plays a gardener who falls in love with a society widow played by Jane Wyman. The Band Wagon: “It’s my favorite of the Vincente Minnelli musicals.

Woman's Face Released in 1941, A Woman's Face tells the story of Anna Holm (Joan Crawford), a mysterious woman on trial for murder. The story unfolds in flashbacks related by Anna Holm's partners in crime. Anna is a very bitter woman, unable to accept the fact that her once-beautiful face has been horribly disfigured by fire. She takes out her anger and frustration on just about everyone, and not surprisingly, incurs a lot of bad feeling among her little band of associates. Anna's specialty is blackmail, and one of her victims is the erring wife of a prominent plastic surgeon (Melvyn Douglas). Joan Crawford was an actress never afraid to "reach", and as Anna Holm she took the unusual (for 1941) risk of playing a woman scarred both inside and out, torn between cold-blooded ruthlessness and the emergence of morals she thought long buried. The 30 Best Films of the Decade - Part 3 We’re all in that humanistic mode of evaluating our lives – coming up on the end of the year and the last time a zero will be the third digit on our calendars. We’re all (from Variety to Cat Fancy) also waxing expert on what films were the best of the best of the best of the past ten years. Which is why there is an unnavigable sea of opinion polluting the internet right now. You may ask (since I’m forcing you to rhetorically), “How can giving your opinion be better than everyone else’s tepid version of an almost-arbitrary-seeming list?” I’m glad you asked. Neil and I anticipated this task back in October and began planning what would become far too much work for two people who essentially sit around watching Animal House all day. We then forcefully shoved that list into an algorithm that neither of us understood (which is why I got my Masters Candidate in Applied Mathematics Friend to construct it for us (and why we didn’t scoff when he charged us $20 and our Powder Blue DVD for it)). 30.

Infamy Infamy is an intense journey into the dangerous lives and obsessed minds of six of America’s most prolific graffiti artists. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Doug Pray (Hype and Scratch) who teamed up with writer, publisher, and graffiti guru Roger Gastman, the movie takes you deep into the world of street legends Saber, Toomer, Jase, Claw, Earsnot, and Enem. With brutal honesty, humor and charisma, these artists reveal why they are so willing to risk everything to spray paint their cities with “tags,” “throwups,” and full-color murals. You’ll also meet Joe “THE GRAFFITI GUERRILLA” Connolly, a notorious “buffer” who paints out graffiti on his neighborhood’s walls with a vengeance matched only by those who vandalized them.
