Ear Cuff Tutorial: The Double-Loop Technique
It's been a bit since I've done a proper tutorial, hasn't it? Don't worry, I'll be doing some craftsy ones soon-- but fellow jewelers are in luck today! I've photographed the making of another kind of ear cuff (which I'm calling the "Double-Loop" because you kind of loop it twice... I'm having a really hard time coming up with names for these different ear cuffs!) For those unfamiliar with ear cuffs, they are awesome and comfortable pieces of jewelry that simply wrap around the cartilage of the ear-- no piercings required! Before you begin, I recommend that you check out my tutorials on the basic ear cuff and the swirly ear cuff. Now then. We are creating a left ear cuff. This particular design is a bit more understated than the other ear cuffs because the decorative swirls are limited to the bottom of the cuff! You will need: - 8 inches of 18 ga wire - needle-nose pliers - (optional) beads, other wire for decorative wrapping, headpins to add dangles, etc. Bend it at the three inch mark.

This tutorial will show how to make simple spiral earrings like those shown below. >How-To: Newsprint Manicure « A Pretty Penny
I saw this newsprint manicure over on The Daily Nail and thought it was adorable (especially for bookworms and word lovers like myself). I did a little Google detective work to see how to recreate it, and was surprised at how easy it is! All of the tutorials I found called for vodka or other clear distilled spirits, but we were fresh out. I used isopropyl alcohol instead, and it seemed to get the job done. Like this: Like Loading...
Simple Ear Cuff Tutorial
What you've all be waiting for... an ear cuff tutorial! I've been making ear cuffs for over a year, but unfortunately haven't had the time to make some of the insanely complicated designs I've dreamed up. This, however, is a very simple ear cuff that takes only a few minutes to master! Ear cuffs (also known as ear clips, cartiliage cuffs, ear vines, and more) are fabulous for people who don't have pierced ears-- or pair them with other earrings for a "double piercing" look. They are easy to wear, and stay in! I wore one on several rollercoasters and it stayed in place. All you need is pliers and some wire (the pictured wires are 20ga blue silver plated copper and 20ga enameled copper in various colors). Begin with 3 inches of wire. Fold at one inch. Fold again, creating a little zigzag. Twist the ends into swirls and pinch the swirls until they touch the center wire. You will need a mandel to form the ear cuff correctly. Push the ends down... The tips of the ends will still be straight.
How to Make Earring Wire Tutorials with Variations
Have you ever run out of ear wires or wish you could hand forge your own for the ultimate artisan look? Here are several options to try using common tools you already have. You'll also need to stalk around the house and look for a few more. 1. First find something cylindrical - approximately 1/2 " in diameter. A dry erase marker pen works really well. 2. 3. 4. 6. 7. 8. This pretty variation adds an additional loop in the front - this also takes up the excess wire which results when you are making the ear wire smaller. It looks oddly open (above right) so this is where that reforming comes in. 9. 10. 11. So have a go if you've never done it before. Also check my post on how to use a large bail forming pliers - this wonderful tool can also be used to make ear wires easily. ______________________________ Original Post by THE BEADING GEMJewelry Making Tips - Jewelry Business Tips />
DIY Basics: Wire Word Accessories
For this week’s DIY basic, we’re getting wordy with it. Wordy accessories, that is. You’ve likely seen your share of personalized bracelets, rings, and necklaces a la the famous Carrie necklace from Sex and the City. What you might not realize though, is that these are extremely easy to make! They’re great for personal use, but make awesome gifts, cake toppers, place cards, and more. Materials: - needle nose pliers - wire cutters - copper or brass wire (available on Amazon) - copper, brass, or gold-plated chain Gather your materials. Write or print out the word you’ll be creating a wire pendant out of. Then simply take your wire and hold it one end and “trace” your word with the end using your needle nose pliers. Cut off at the end once you’re done and curl the end in a little bit. Such a fun DIY twist on the word necklace! As you can see, we nerded out and used Brit’s Twitter handle as our “word” of choice. You can also make a really sweet bracelet using just the wire.
