news « thinkpublic Looking for thinkpublic? We’re taking a pause, as our founding director Deborah is going on maternity leave from September 2012. We’ve learnt from many of our projects with new mums and children’s services, that starting a family can be like starting a business, extremely consuming in both time and energy. Geolocation and augmented reality:Info wins the virtual cities "The idea is to display real-time information useful to users: now you can find pizza with his mobile phone, but nothing on the public service," said Hugues Aubin, Chargé de Mission the city of Rennes, in charge of the project." Us Now Us Now is a documentary film project "about the power of mass collaboration, the government and the Internet"[1] The New York Times describes it as a film which "paints a future in which every citizen is connected to the state as easily as to Facebook, choosing policies, questioning politicians, collaborating with neighbours."[2] The documentary weaves together the perceptions of leading thinkers on the power of the web, with the overriding suggestion that people gain a sense of satisfaction from active participation rather than symbolic representation in decision-making processes.[3] (Rebecca Frankel, editor of Channel 4's FourDocs) Synopsis[edit]

How Location Services Could Impact Health Care Imagine a hospital that could respond to medical emergencies armed with real-time information about exactly where all its doctors were located. Inside the hospital, which cardio specialist is closest to the 4th floor? Outside the hospital - if an on-call physician is racing to get to a patient's side, how far away are they and when can they be expected to arrive?

Innovations: Technology, Governance, Globalization Philip E. Auerswald and Iqbal Z. Quadir, Editors SILK For the past couple of years we've been working on the Kent Dementia Friendly Communities project. Covering the whole of Kent the project has inspired local community projects and dementia action alliances to form. The past few months we've been hard at work creating a website that captures all the activity that has happened under the Kent Dementia Friendly Communities project. The website quietly went live a few weeks ago and we wanted to share it on here: www.dementiafriendlykent.org.uk The site is not finished, in the future we hope it will be updated by the local alliances and project teams to continue to share the work they are doing, inspiring other communities along the way. We're still editing and adding to the site so if anyone has any comments please do get in touch.

Map Maker Google Map Maker officially closed on March 31, 2017, and many of its features are being integrated into Google Maps. Since 2008, the Google Map Maker community has edited and moderated millions of features to improve the Google Maps experience. To make it easier for all Google Maps users to contribute changes to the map, we’ve started to graduate functionality from Map Maker to Google Maps on both desktop and mobile.

How Citizen Mapmakers are Changing the Story of our Cities By Christine McLaren - resident blogger for the BMW Guggenheim Lab, a mobile think tank investigating solutions to urban problems. It launched this fall in New York and will travel next to Berlin, Mumbai, and six other cities over six years. We see them every day, popping up on our Twitter feeds, filtered through blogs, or even scattered throughout the New York Times: maps portraying not the usual locations or destinations, but data. From people’s kisses in Toronto, to the concentration of pizza joints in New York, to the number of women who ride bikes, to the likelihood of being killed by a car in any given American city, the list of lenses through which we can now view our cities and neighborhoods goes on, thanks to data-mapping geeks. “The map user has now become the map creator,” is how Fraser Taylor put it to me in an interview.
