For starters, we’d like to say thank you for the amazing reception our free eBook Web design and Mobile Trends for 2013 has had since its launch last week, and especially to all those who made it possible by sharing their insightful opinions. Today we’re doing a review of the end conclusions, where we will identify and analyze 10 of the key trends. This is just a brief overview of the conclusions you can read in the book. In fact, we have now released an updated version of the eBook in PDF format, which includes a few corrections and a new layout for an easier and more enjoyable reading experience. Flat Web Design: Trend Or Revolution? Every so often, new ways of doing something sneak into our lives and work habits. Reason for this can be changing personal preferences, new technologies, or simply the urge to follow trends. A recent new habit in web design is a flat design approach. Flat describes a two dimensional design for a two dimensional screen. For the last few years, skeuomorphism characterised modern and user-centered design. Now, it seems that we have somehow gotten used to the digital age and many of us don’t even remember the real-life counterparts that we tried to represent in our designs. With flat web design, we take a step towards accepting the unique and abstract nature of the web. 1. Reflections on Web Design Trends in 2013 Let’s try to reflect on today’s trends and look a bit ahead. Today, design is developing by leaps and bounds, and changes in styles are happening almost daily. A huge impact on design comes from inspiration boards. When in years past, a designer showed his creation to his granny, she nodded her head and the designer was satisfied. And then, the stream of thought stopped. Designers see each other’s work, browse likes and comments, and draw conclusions. So, let’s think more about what we will likely see in 2013. Flat design It is firmly stuck in our time. Metro (Modern) Style, Google and many other companies are now becoming simpler and flatter when it comes to design. But for now, this is the one big thing and without a lot of variance.
