Homemade Reed Diffusers: How-To & Tips Reed diffusers are decorative air fresheners for the home that work with scented oils and reeds. The oil travels up the reeds to release their fragrance into the air around them. No need to use aerosol sprays, light candles or plugin air fresheners, the process handles itself naturally. They’re very popular since you can choose from an endless amount of fragrances, have no open flames (candles) to worry about and they don’t plugin so no dangling cords to hide or fuss with. If you’d like to try making your own (a perfect way to customize your favorite scents), here are some tips and recipes showing you how to do that. Make Your Own Reed Diffusers And Oils With A Few Simple Ingredients Choose glass bottles and vases that have a small opening at the neck and that compliment the room you are placing it in. That’s all it takes to make your own! Making Your Own Oils You can make a homemade version of reed diffuser oil with just a few simple ingredients that you can easily find locally. Tips

How to Draw Tinkerbell Easy, Step by Step, Disney Characters, Cartoons, Draw Cartoon Characters, FREE Online Drawing Tutorial, Added by Dawn, March 27, 2012, 5:58:48 pm Hey everyone, sorry I returned so late today but I had a lot of work to do with some of the lessons that I was trying to make. Since everyone likes the sketched drawings I have been making, I thought a nice version on Tinkerbell would be liked as well. The sketch of Tinkerbell came out so good. I really like her face and how I managed to keep those cheeks of hers looking chubby like they normally do. Disney's Tinkerbell has been one of my favorite Disney characters of all time since I was a young girl.

Video Podcast: How to Make a Handbag out of a Recycled Book. » Curbly | DIY Design Community « Keywords: handbag, purse, bag, book I have a penchant for purchasing stuff that’s cool, but for which I don’t have specific plans or use. Case in point: I have piles of pulp and sci-fi novels from the 40s-60s. The art and colors are amazing, and the language provides for ridiculous quotes for ages. But after I slice out the illustrations, and force my way through the first and last chapters so I can say I ‘read’ them, these dimestore masterpieces don’t escape from their cardboard homes often. Thus, enter this project: an adorable handbag featuring the incredible art of ‘literature’. Click play, or go here to watch the video. DIY Solar Lamp: Make Your Own Eco-Friendly Sun Jars « Dornob The principle is simple and seductively clever: solar lights that store energy during the day and release light at night. These can be purchased ready-made in a variety of colors (yellow, blue and red) but they can also be built at home. A simple, less-technical approach involves buying a conventional solar-powered yard lamp and then essentially harvesting it for key pieces to put in a jar. This is simply a way of taking an existing solar lamp design and appropriating its parts to make something more attractive for display around a house or home. A more electronically-savvy individual can take the more complex route and built a solar lamp from the ground up using small solar panels – though the aesthetic result may not be as impressive. Whatever route you choose to go, these are fun and sustainable gadgets that make it easy to go green, automate the process of turning on lights at night and can add some color to your porch, patio, garden or windowsill.

Creative Kismet » Blog Archive » little guiding stars Since the new year has started I’ve been trying to think of ways to be more kind to my self. Especially when that nasty gremlins try to creep in and stump me. I remembered this origami star video on You Tube and had to get them involved in my plan. I thought it would be fun to make a whole bunch with kind words and “you are….” phrases inside. I made 60 of them, enough to last me the whole year if I open one a week, plus a few extra just in case. I used 12 x 12 inch scrapbook paper and cut 1/2 x 12″ strips, then followed the video HERE*. *UPDATE! Be Sociable, Share!

Pinecone Firestarters with Colored Fire Anybody can throw some dried pinecones in a wicker basket and call it the Christmas season, but some people like to give this staid decorating tactic a kick in the pants. The winter was over before I got around to trying these pinecones, but I’m hoping I’ll get the pinecone urge next winter and will have some pictures then. How to Open, Kill Bugs, and Sanitize Pinecones Gathering your own pinecones from the backyard is an easy and fun way to do it, until a bug crawls out of one and you get the heeby jeebies everytime you look at your pinecone crafts after that. These are the steps I usually follow to sterilize my pinecones, though I think most people don’t bother with this and just use them fresh from the yard. Place the pinecones in a bucket of cool water and let them sit out overnight (don’t let them freeze). The next day, let the cones sit out in the sun to dry (preferably inside where they won’t just find more bugs). Waxed Colorful Decorative Scented Pinecones Shopping List

Jungle Survival: Finding Water" Because jungles are so wet, collecting rainwater is probably the easiest part of survival. Leaves on the rainforest floor are large because of the limited amount of sunlight they get. The larger the leaf, the more of the sun's rays it can soak up. Large leaves are useful in collecting dew and rainwater. If you have a container to store water, simply angle a leaf into it overnight or during a rainstorm and you have some fresh drinking water in no time. If you have a poncho, tie it to a tree on a slant to allow the rain to collect and drain. You'll fare even better if you can find a running water source. Believe it or not, plastic bottles also work for boiling. Green bamboo has clear and odorless water inside it that you can drink. Another way to collect water is to make a solar still. The moisture from the ground reacts with the heat from the sun to produce condensation on the plastic. These are just a few methods you can use.

Braided Headband Tutorial It's chilly outside here today and I'm loving it! I enjoyed every minute of reaching into the closet and pulling out soft cozy blankets, snuggling up on the couch with my blanket and laptop to check my e-mail this morning... Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of temps below 40 degrees, but a high of 65, I'll take it! Anyway.... on with the tutorial. Here is what we are making today! What you need- Thick hair tie Six 1" strips of fabric Bulldog clip or safety pin Sewing machine (or needle and thread) Fabric tac I ripped my fabric strips so they were a bit frayed on the edges, personal choice. Tack each end of the braid just enough that it doesn't come undone . Then tack both braids together on each end, be careful not to twist the braids. Cut your hair tie so it's one strip of elastic. Sandwich your elastic ends between the ends of your braids on each end, again, careful not to twist the braids. Sew over the elastic so that it's secure. Your done! Enjoy!

Carry Your House on Your Back With Vessel by Justin Gargasz This truly is the greatest thing since Michael Webb of Archigram's Suitaloon, (shown below the fold)- Industrial and fashion designer Justin Gargasz has developed a jacket that unfolds into a tent. Talk about carrying your house on your back! Justin calls it "Vessel" and writes: Individuals feel the need to escape interactions in their environment everyday. Whether it be interactions with excessive technology or other people, this psychological and physical need to get away is where I began my investigation. If it is too hot, it folds up further into a sling pack. A physical as well as psychological escape is achieved when the user has the option to efficiently get away from inside of building and come back when ever they choose. Very neat stuff from Justin Gargaz, via Design blog. Suitaloon, Michael Webb of Archigram, 1968
