Making presentations in the TED style

Making presentations in the TED style
TED has earned a lot of attention over the years for many reasons, including the nature and quality of its short-form conference presentations. All presenters lucky enough to be asked to speak at TED are given 18-minute slots maximum (some are for even less time such as 3- and 6-minute slots). Some who present at TED are not used to speaking on a large stage, or are at least not used to speaking on their topic with strict time restraints. Thanks to Tim Longhurst (The TED Commandments - rules every speaker needs to know) you can see the list in an easier to read format below. Thou Shalt Not Simply Trot Out thy Usual Shtick.Thou Shalt Dream a Great Dream, or Show Forth a Wondrous New Thing, Or Share Something Thou Hast Never Shared Before.Thou Shalt Reveal thy Curiosity and Thy Passion.Thou Shalt Tell a Story.Thou Shalt Freely Comment on the Utterances of Other Speakers for the Sake of Blessed Connection and Exquisite Controversy.Thou Shalt Not Flaunt thine Ego. PechaKucha Night was designed by designers Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham in 2003 as an event for (you guessed it) designers and creative types of all disciplines to meet, network, and show their work, and play, in public. PechaKucha Night occurs in hundreds of locations around the world. If you've not experiences PechaKucha, please join us for a night of thinking, drinking and chit-chat. * Note that your occupation and presentation topic may be completely unrelated. ** Do not include flash or animation as samples or in your presentation – images only, please. We will reply to your email soon. The goal of PKN and SDAF in this effort is to stimulate thought, awareness and inspiration through the many forms that art and design take. Best Practices for building JSON REST Web Services « Building Fe A few of our friends have been asking us what are some of the best practices we learnt over the last two years designing and implementing RESTful Web Services as the back-end of the feedly service. Here is a quick/high level brain dump: Phase 1 – Defining a simple resource/service | Take a sample resource such as Customer Information, model it as JSON. Build a simple servlet where PUT creates a new customer, GET returns the customer information based on the customer key, DELETE deletes the customer and POST updates the customer information. Make sure that PUT returns the right information regarding the URL of the newly created resource. In our case, we have a framework which maps JSON to our Java Model and use hibernate to persist that model in a MySQL database. Phase 2 – Implementing a client | Learn how to build a simple Javascript client which interacts with the service you built in phase one. We will try to add more as our back end evolves. Update July 8th 2009. Like this:

San Diego Architectural Foundation Handy Tweaks To Make GIMP Replace Photoshop | How-To | Smashing Grassroots Global Justice Alliance A Gentle introduction to Cedet This article doesn't pretend to be detailed description on how to setup Emacs to be complete development environment. I just tried to provide a small description on "How to setup CEDET to work with C, C++ & Java", although most of this description will be also applicable for other languages, supported by CEDET. What is CEDET? The CEDET package is a collection of libraries, that implement different commands, but all of them have common goal — provide functionality for work with source code written in different programming languages (please, take into account that not all of these packages are included into CEDET bundled with GNU Emacs): Semantic is a base for construction of syntactic analyzers for different programming languages. CEDET's versions We need to understand that there are several versions of CEDET, that differ from each other by installation & customization methods: This article describes new version of CEDET, including version bundled with GNU Emacs. make clean-all && make

About the Yes Lab | Yes Lab What's the Action Switchboard? Read about it here! It's essentially Yes Lab 2.0—enabling us to do online what we've been doing in person. What is the Yes Lab? At the moment, the Yes Lab is mainly a series of brainstorms and trainings to help activist groups carry out media-getting creative actions, focused on their own campaign goals. How does a Yes Lab work? In a typical Yes Lab project, an activist organization will come to the Yes Lab with a target—a particular company, politician, corporate front group, bad government policy, or even an abstract idea—as well as a campaign goal: to affect public debate, push for legislation, or embarrass an evildoer, for instance. Is the Yes Lab only for activist groups? Universities can also participate in the Yes Lab in partnership with activist groups. How about individuals? No, sorry—Yes Labs are meant for activist groups and universities. What does a Yes Lab look like? Trainings can include stuff like: We also try to mull over: Does it work? Yes.

Frequently Asked Questions | The Yes Men This is a list of questions that the Yes Men have been asked at least once, or by reporters writing articles about us, or by people watching lectures, or by friends scratching heads. For questions about the Yes Lab, which is where the Yes Men are devoting almost all of their energy these days, please see here. Other questions, more practical ones, are answered at destructables.org. Other questions, more personal ones, are compiled at reddit.com. Who are you? The Yes Men are a group who use any means necessary to agree their way into the fortified compounds of commerce, and then smuggle out the stories of their undercover escapades to provide a public glimpse at the behind-the-scenes world of big business. That sucked. We're The Yes Men, Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno. What would you tell someone who wanted to follow in your footsteps? As for footsteps, you might want to find your own footsteps, but please do borrow any of ours that you like. I really want to change things! Awesome. Great!
