The Urban Survival Skills Everyone Needs To Know The fantasy of an impending zombie apocalypse may inspire urban survival fantasies in the most level-headed of us, but zombie apocalypse or not, knowing how to survive the breakdown of social amenities we take for granted is a legitimate skill. Here’s a look at the basic urban survival skills you need to know, catered to your skill set. Previously we took a look at the wilderness survival skills everyone should know, and a number of those skills apply here, but the daily and significant challenges in a city transform the types of skills needed and methods of survival. To help get a good understanding of what’s needed for urban survival, I talked with Dr Arthur Bradley, author of The Handbook to Practical Disaster Preparedness for the Family and Disaster Preparedness for EMP Attacks and Solar Storms. We’ll guide you along the path to applying each type of skill to the main factors of survival: shelter, water, food, and rescue. Safety Skills for Daily Life and Natural Disasters

The Silver Bear Cafe The Art Of The Bug-Out Bag Giordano Bruno The bug-out-bag is probably the most clichéd emergency preparation in the history of survivaldom. Some people focus so much on compiling their BOB that they lose track of much more important survival matters, while others are so biased against the 'bug out' concept that they refuse to even consider putting one together. In the world of survival research, preppers sometimes position themselves on the far ends of the opinion spectrum. To be sure, some strategies simply do not work and will never work, and to be uncompromising in those instances is reasonable, especially when you are dealing with such extremes as economic collapse. However, in my endless war against 'assumption', I would point out that rigidity in thinking often leads to tragedy for those in the midst of a social breakdown. The bug-out-bag should not be a primary concern of the survivalist, but it should be somewhere on their list. Bug Out Bag Essentials Hunting will be difficult.

Absolutely identify plants before using them as food. Poison hemlock has killed people who mistook it for its relatives, wild carrots and wild parsnips. At times you may find yourself in a situation for which you could not plan. It is important to be able to recognize both cultivated and wild edible plants in a survival situation. Remember the following when collecting wild plants for food: You identify plants, other than by memorizing particular varieties through familiarity, by using such factors as leaf shape and margin, leaf arrangements, and root structure. The basic leaf margins (Figure 9-1) are toothed, lobed, and toothless or smooth. These leaves may be lance-shaped, elliptical, egg-shaped, oblong, wedge-shaped, triangular, long-pointed, or top-shaped (Figure 9-2). There are many plants throughout the world. Specific Remedies
