9 Lists To Keep Updated, and Keep Handy I bought a Moleskine notebook a long time ago, and for a while it got zero use. My productivity system is totally digital and Web-based, as is my personal journal. I bought the Moleskine because it looked awesome, and because so many other people found it useful. The Moleskine, though, made its way into my pocket or backpack all the time, because of one simple use I found for it: a list manager. Not a list of things to do, or people to call – different lists. That said, I’ve also discovered how useful it is to keep a small number of lists both updated and handy at all times, for a whole variety of uses. “Things I Want” Every year, people I know ask me what I want for my birthday, or for Christmas, or just because they love giving me gifts (that last would would be nice, huh?). If I get it, or don’t want it anymore, it goes away. “Gift Ideas” This one’s on the opposite side of gift-giving. “Got a Minute?” “Watch, Read, Listen” Another critical one for me, as a music and movie junkie. Are you a leader or manager? What is the difference? Petaling Jaya (The Star/ANN) - Leaders and managers obviously have one thing in common they lead or manage teams; but as their titles suggest there are differences between leaders and managers. As an executive search consultant I have interviewed many senior executives over the years and most of them have indicated that they would prefer to be led than to be managed. However, I have observed that as an organisation grows it is almost impossible to scale up without a strong management structure. As such, I believe that leadership and management both have a part to play in the growth of an organisation. The manager My first encounter with a manager was on my first job. The leader We have all come across leaders who have inspired us at some point in our lives. The difference Warren Bennis lists the following comparisons between a manager and a leader in "On Becoming a Leader," which was published in 1989: The manager administers; the leader innovates. The manager imitates; the leader originates.

How to Write a To-Do List That Won't Hurt Your Productivity I remember trying out my first hour-by-hour schedule to help me get things done when I was 10. Wasn’t really my thing. I’ve since retired the hourly schedule, but I still rely on a daily to-list. I went through the same motions every night in university. I wrote out, by hand, my to-do list for the next day, ranked by priority. Beside each task I wrote down the number of hours each task should take. This was and still is a habit and finding a system that works has been a struggle for me. In my moment of retrospection I still wasn’t sure if my current system was spot on. The brief history of the to-do list Charles Schwab was a steel tycoon and a man obsessed with output and economic efficiency. In the early 1900′s, Charles sent out a memo stating that he would award handsomely the individual who could improve productivity amongst his employees. They should immediately get to work on the first task. And thus the to-do list was born. How your to-do list is hurting your productivity Dr. 1. 2. 3.
