Stones and Leather. When I become a rockstar someday, that’s what I’m going to name my band. And I am going to wear this: I have seen these pop up in a few places this season, but what finally sparked my interest was that a coworker of mine was wearing one the other day. I admired it, and since I like making jewelry, I took note of how it was put together, and it looked really simple! I started thinking that instead of glass beads (like hers was made of) I’d like to go with a more earthy feel using some stone beads. She confessed to paying $28 for hers. Now if you’re here reading this, I’m going to assume that like me, you find paying $28 to be freaking crazy when you can do it yourself. What you’ll need: 24 inches of leather cord for a single-wrap braceletRound beads. This bracelet took me an hour, but that was for two reasons: 1) I had to play with it a little to figure out how to make it, and 2) I had a little mishap with my thread. Doh. First, tie a knot in the end.

Red, White & Blue Wrap Bracelet I love July 4th. It’s really my favorite. It’s fireworks and parades and barbecues, seeing family, taking a day off work… popsicles and watermelon – everything that embodies summer! And over the weekend, I was picking up a cute little flag top for Raya when I realized I don’t have anything patriotic to wear. So I thought I’d remedy that with a patriotic wrap bracelet. I opted to use seed beads and waxed cotton twine – I know it doesn’t sparkle and shine the way some people make their wraps, but it keeps the cost way down, which I think is important for seasonal pieces. So yes, this project has been a long time coming; S will vouch for me here since I've been voicing my intentions to carry it out for a few months now. Fortunately for a lack of plans this Easter long-weekend, I could finally do it! Inspired by Anve (and then some more by Jil Sander), this is a simple DIY which won't cost you much time or money. Materials Rustle up a big piece of leather (or pleather, or anything else you might fancy it in), some supa-glue, scissors, 4 press-studs, and a sewing machine. Measure and cut out a large rectangle of leather (mine was about 45cm x 70cm) - the easiest way is to find a paper bag or a box which is similar in size to what you'd like your bag to be, then use those dimensions (lay it out as if you're going to wrap the box). Fold it lengthwise with the good sides touching, and sew two of the sides together. Et voila! Roll, fold, or bunch the top and off you go. xx T

How To Make An Easy Dress (For Cheap!) Two facts about me: I'm cheap. I love dresses. I wear dresses probably 6 days out of the week. It's not that I one day just decided to wear dresses to feel cute and girly. Back in November when I really started Talk2thetrees I kinda just wore pajama pants and sweat pants. Dresses are so comfortable, I can sit around the house and feel comfortable and cute. The only problem.. they are expensive! Here is a tutorial on a High Waisted Dress: For under 6 bucks! First you will need a ribbed tank top. I got mine from Walmart for 2.50 You could also use a t-shirt 3 yards of matching fabric. Clearance section is my favorite. Cut the tank top almost in half. (I cut mine a little too short.. oops!) For the bottom part of your dress take the fabric and wrap it around your waist about 1 and a half times, and cut in a straight line. I never measure, I never use patterns... Next you fold your fabric in half. You have kind of a big blocky rectangle skirt. (You are sewing the raw edges, not the bubble hem)

Pintuck Pillows There’s something going on with me lately that makes me want to sew repetitive lines. May need psychoanalysis. Anyway, I made these pillows from washed silk. I had some silk remnants, washed them on cold and let them air dry, which gives the silk a wrinkled look. These pillows use pintucks to create a tailored, clean look. I was lucky enough to sneak away last week for a vacation with the husband. But I didn’t want to disappoint you. Digging through my cabinets, I found lanyard. , pink , and green lanyard yourself}. I could seriously wow you with my box stitch skills. This lanyard was neon. So I did. I wrapped 3 neon lanyards around a regular old wood bangle which you can buy right here for almost nothing.
