CREW_online - v2.5 CURIOUS RITUALS CURIOUS RITUALS is a research project conducted at Art Center College of Design (Pasadena) in July-August 2012 by Nicolas Nova (The Near Future Laboratory / HEAD-Genève), Katherine Miyake, Nancy Kwon and Walton Chiu from the media design program. This research project is about gestures, postures and digital rituals that typically emerged with the use of digital technologies (computers, mobile phones, sensors, robots, etc.): gestures such as recalibrating your smartphone doing an horizontal 8 sign with your hand, the swiping of wallet with RFID cards in public transports, etc. These practices can be seen as the results of a co-construction between technical/physical constraints, contextual variables, designers intents and people’s understanding. We can see them as an intriguing focus of interest to envision the future of material culture. Within the ART OF FAILURE collective, Nicolas Maigret and Nicolas Montgermont experiment the capacity of the contemporary technologies to generate specific sound or visual languages. In their realizations, the internal characteristics of the media are revealed through their errors, dysfunctions, borderlines or failure threshold, which they develop sensory and immersive audio visual experiences. La Fonderie - Agence Numérique d'ïle de France La réalité augmentée entre au musée Les expériences du British Museum Shelley Mannion, responsable des programmes d’apprentissage numérique au British Museum, a publié deux articles sur la réalité augmentée et sur les expériences qu'elle a menées au sein de la célèbre institution londonienne. Le premier article, en anglais, publié sur Museum iD, relate les projets exploratoires de réalité augmentée utilisée dans un contexte d'éducation muséale. On y définit d'abord la réalité augmentée comme la possibilité de voir ou d'entendre, dans un contexte donné, une information pertinente superposée à ce que l'on voit dans le monde réel. The project was born three years ago believing that digital arts, though stammering and often fascinated by avant-garde experiments or new technologies, had to face contemporary art both from the point of view of critics, audience and institutions and that of market and collectors. The stakes are to enlarge the diffusion of these works and prove that the so-called digital arts have achieved maturity. To respond to this aim, numeriscausa has decided to commit themselves to the mission of helping artists in creating and releasing their works in France as well as on the international scene.
