The Landlady About this BritLit kit Billy Weaver, a young man visiting the City of Bath for the first time, is looking for accommodation. He is inexplicably drawn to a house where the landlady seems to be expecting him. The house and the landlady seem friendly and welcoming, and he looks forward to staying there. Signing the guest book, two names disturb him. The themes drawn from this story include poisoning, embalming and taxidermy as well as a look at witches. The Petting Zoo by Peter de Niverville Coasting forward, Johnson scanned the road looking for the turnoff. About one hundred yards ahead, he saw a lane that intersected with the highway. Flicking on his turn signal, he shot a quick glance at his watch. If I don't find it in fifteen minutes, he promised himself, I'll turn back. Accelerating smoothly, he turned onto a well-paved secondary road with deep ditches on either side. Johnson hated his job. The only redeeming feature of his job was that he was good at it. As the needle on the speedometer crept higher and higher, the neatly kept fields and freshly painted houses became a blur. But his mood soon soured. Johnson jumped on the brakes when a huge pothole emerged in the center of the road. As he studied the road ahead looking for a safe place to make a U-turn, he saw it. This must be the place, he concluded. Tall grass slapped at the bottom of the car and rusted barbed wire clung to rotted posts that ran alongside the lane. "What you want?" "I'll git Jake. "Fifty! Their curved bill is a specialist bit of equipment, containing a unique structure that filters algae and small crustaceans out of the water. And this bill is the key to their parenting strategy. Their chicks are born with straight bills, that can’t yet filter water to feed. So these bird parents produce milk. The hormone prolactin stimulates milk production, the same as for humans. The milk is bright red, as it contains the chemicals that give the chick its pink colour until it can feed itself. With both parents working together, they manage to produce enough milk to sustain their chick until its bill has developed and it’s able to stand on its own two feet.
