Beautiful web-based timeline software Vyonyx | Tutorial11: Blur matter(s) “Where there is movement, there is improvement.” – Rick Helders Contemporary architectural visualisations are full of motion blurred cut-out characters, seemingly done in the last possible minute before a deadline. The reason why artists blur people in their images is either to make them stand out less ( “unobtrusive animation” ) and/or to simulate the photographic exposure of real-life cameras. Now, the cardinal problem with the automatic application of the motion blur filter is that it blurs the whole cut-out figure in a very uniform manner, not taking into consideration the human anatomy and character’s very specific movements in space. As you can see from it,which I sketched over a photography, not all parts of the body are equally blurred- some of them are blurred less, some more and there are even some parts that are not getting blurred at all! Alright, let me now show you how to apply these principles in our work. …pull it gently…that is, blur it nicely, using radial blur.

Escalalatina: Rendering Your Designs with Diversity Tired of seeing Nordic families in representations of Colombian markets and New York hipsters drinking coffee in Mexican cultural centers, a group of self-described “young latinos” have created Escalalatina, a collection of high-resolution images of “people on the road to development” to be used for renderings. Inspired by Teodor Javanaud Emdén’s SKALGUBBAR - a virtual library of people for renders - Escalatina aims to provide a way for Latin American architects to fill their renders with images of local people. All of the images are available in .png format and users can also submit their own images for the site as well. Check out some of the Escalalatina images after the break. Graphics for Planners - Tutorials in Computer Graphics Programs Introduction These tutorials are designed to introduce planning students to the computer programs most commonly used to prepare graphic plans. This includes: creating page layouts for graphic presentations layering analytical graphics over aerial photographs scanning and editing hand drawn work producing computer generated images and plans generating three-dimensional massing models Raster or Vector? Raster-based images are based on a collection of dots that made small enough and close enough together that the human eye can not perceive them as such. Vector-based formats can be scaled accurately, and can be measured and manipulated on a line by line, entity by entity basis, versus raster-based formats that can only be edited by virtue of changing the dots that make up the picture. ArcMap, SketchUp and AutoCAD use similar approaches to vector files: files are created in the computer in "real-size," without the need to scale components up or down. CMYK or RGB? Where do I begin?
