“Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” Inspired Juice Recipe | Page: 1 It’s difficult to cook for my family these days. My teenage athletes need their proteins and carbs while my husband is on “all protein and a tad bit of carb” diet. He is trying to lose weight while my kids are trying to gain muscle mass. So when I heard about this documentary, “Fat Sick and Nearly Dead“, I was intrigued. Juicing. Cross drank juice for 60 days to get his health back, and this film chronicles his journey across 3000 miles to do just that. From “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”; 100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross is at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. Here is the trailer: While I don’t believe juicing to lose weight, never mind as main meals, is for everyone and you should definitely check with your doctor first before starting any new diet programs, I think everyone should drink fruit/veggie juice daily to get some healthy doses of fruits and vegetables in their system. Green Monster Movement Posted by Angela | Posted in Reader Recipes | Posted on 17-06-2011 Smoothies are great, and one of my favorite things to make, but normally I would include a few varieties of fruit – not veg in a blender, so when I discovered the green monster recipes and movement I was very intrigued. My little brother and I would often concoct smoothie recipes together after a summer run, throwing whatever we could find in the kitchen into the blender jug – usually bananas, apples, OJ, honey, peanut butter and some ice – you get the picture – the refreshing, but still sweet and fruity type of drink. I’m quite a health nut and am always willing to try something ‘healthy’. Green Monster 1: • ½ frozen banana • 5 strawberries • 60g low-fat natural yogurt • 100 ml soy milk • Squirt of honey • 1 tablespoon flaxseeds • 20g oats • 2 handfuls spinach Once blended, I topped it with a sprinkle of Bran Flakes. Once blended, I topped it with coconut shavings. I recently decided to change my lifestyle and diet.

Mean Green Juice Recipes | My Juice Cleanse I’m on Day 17 of my Juice Reboot! I watched Joe Cross’s film “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead” and I was inspired. After two back surgeries, may procedures, and severe chronic pain, I’ve ballooned up in weight. I’ve tried every diet but my metabolism seems out of sync with all the cortisone injections and medicines. So far, I’ve only lost 10 pounds but I’ve lost 2 inches in my waist and 2 inches in my hips and my pants are hanging more loosely. I bought the Breville Juice Fountain Plus, centrifugal juicer. My favorite recipe is 3 apples, 3 carrots, 3-6 Kale leaves, piece of ginger size of thumb. For you ladies, I’ve also noticed that the pores on my nose have shrunk a bit. Good luck to you all and happy juicing!

China's Abandoned Wonderland In Chenzhuang Village, China, about 20 miles northwest of central Beijing, the ruins of a partially built amusement park called Wonderland sit near a highway, surrounded by houses and fields of corn. Construction work at the park, which developers had promised would be "the largest amusement park in Asia," stopped around 1998 after disagreements with the local government and farmers over property prices. Developers briefly tried to restart construction in 2008, but without success. The abandoned structures are now a draw for local children and a few photographers, who encounter signs telling them to proceed at their own risk. Reuters photographer David Gray visited the site on a chilly morning earlier this month and returned with these haunting images of a would-be Wonderland. Roasted Cumin-Lime Carrots |familystylefood|recipe Carrots could easily be the bastard child of the vegetable world. I think that needs to change. Carrots are such a tried-and-true, familiar sight in just about any kitchen; so dependable and ordinary that we don’t even notice them growing whiskers and getting limp in the refrigerator vegetable bin, probably right there next to a sad, yellowing bunch of celery. And just forget about those elderly, foot-long, Grand Canyon-cracked carrots with their greens lopped off that you buy individually and invariably taste like a mildewed bath math; who knows how long they’ve been hanging around in storage? The kind of carrots I’m talking about are bunches of sweet babies you can take home with their fresh green tops still attached. I’ve been training myself to treat fresh carrots as well as any other vegetable; not as an afterthought. Cooking breaks down the cellulose in vegetables so they are a bit more digestible, but the healthy beta-carotene in carrots needs fat in order to be absorbed. Ingredients

Afflicted: 11 Abandoned American Hospitals and Asylums “Open” for Exploration With some of the most disturbing and tragic histories of any buildings in the US, asylums and hospitals are way beyond creepy . Many of them were built in the late 1800s, when “mental illnesses” (such as masturbation, menopause, and teenage rebellion) were considered dangerous enough to lock someone in an asylum. A pain-inflicting misunderstanding of mental illness combined with a chronic mistreatment of its sufferers meant that many people were never released and spent the remainder of their lives in these horrible institutions. In addition to asylums, many sanatoriums were constructed around this time to care for the poor and very sick. Utilizing radical treatments that were incredibly painful yet ineffective, early hospitals often created more suffering than good for the inflicted. After decades of overcrowding in both asylums and sanatoriums, the invention of antibiotics and behavioral drugs, and an evolving understanding of mental illness rendered these massive compounds obsolete.
