9 Marketing Mistakes That Cost Your Business Money February 5,2015 By Sarah Ware, Markerly I’ve had the pleasure of working with nearly a hundred companies so far on advertising and marketing initiatives. When we are evaluating whether or not our services are the right fit for our clients, here are the questions that we ask to make sure that we can deliver, and are on the same page when campaigns go live. 1. Often I’m asked how much money a certain marketing method will make for a client. Often early stage companies haven’t had the opportunity to test different methods of acquiring customers or users, so they are not sure. 2. This is another question that you need to be able to answer. You can narrow down if it’s the quality of traffic you are receiving by looking at conversion rates by site or advertisement. 3. A top funnel approach is sending new people to your site. Investing in a bottom of the funnel approach would be trying to increase your renewal rate or repeat customers. 4. Everyone is used to display advertisements. 5. 6. 7. 8.

This Microbial Battery Makes Power And Water From Poop And Pollution | Co.Exist | World changing ideas and innovation The idea of sewage-powered devices is not new. In fact, it’s existed for more than a century. But finding a particularly efficient (and cost-effective) version of microbial fuel cell technology has been an ongoing challenge for engineers. Researchers at Stanford University say they’ve developed a battery that can convert some 30% of the energy of dissolved organic matter in wastewater into electricity, the same proportion of energy that solar cells can harvest from sunlight. Here's the science: Researchers Yi Cui, Craig Criddle, Xing Xie, and their team realized that the oxygen in their microbial fuel cell design was causing problems. So the researchers got rid of the membrane setup. By taking oxygen out of the equation, and instead using silver oxide in place of the cathode, the team just has to oxidize the electrode (silver oxide) when it gets too loaded with electrons and turns into a hunk of silver. Still, there’s a couple of caveats. "It's a very simple device," Criddle says.
