Photography is all about exposure, or the light that is allowed to be let in when a photo is taken. Learning how to adjust exposure to get the effect you’re looking for is one of the things all photographers have to eventually learn, and one of the easiest examples of this is taking a photo of a silhouette against a sunrise or sunset. In the photo above, I exposed for the sky. “Exposing for the sky” means I told my camera that I wanted to capture all the beauty and color variations of the sky and not to worry about letting enough light in to see my baby. By “telling my camera” I mean that I made the necessary adjustments and tweaks to my camera settings to make sure the sky was properly exposed. In this case, I took the easy road and simply dialed back the exposure compensation until it let in less and less light…to the point that I was satisfied that it was capturing the sunset accurately. Anyway, short little lesson this morning. Photographers, please feel free to weigh in! Love, P-Dub

The Endless Summer. I used to have that dayglo movie poster on my wall back in the day. A few weeks ago at Diah and Colin’s wedding, Colin’s brother Andrew–as only one’s siblings can do–recounted the time that his teenage brother, inspired by that surfing movie, handmade his own surfboard…and took to the waters of Long Island Sound on an oddly-shaped, sinking fiberglass creation. So it was all quite fitting that Colin and Diah were married in the summer, at the seaside–with a gorgeous red-orange sunset for a backdrop at the Riverside Yacht Club in Greenwich CT. Guests, many who traveled from India, dined under the tent decorated with flowers from Something Special florist, before hitting to the dance floor bigtime to the high energy sounds of Joe D’Elia and the Allstar Band. It was nice to return to the Riverside Yacht Club and a it was pleasure working with Slainte event planners from Madison CT. To see many more photos please click here… View More >

Are people stick rocking mullets? Is that still happening? I lived in North Carolina for a “spell” and saw my fair share of mullets. Now, ever since I moved to Miami, mullets have been replaced with fake butts – which I see on a daily basis. Thing is – mullets and fake butts are sort of the same thing. Today’s cards are the mullets of crafting. If “partial die-cutting” is greek to you – check out THIS post from the archives to get an idea of how it works. Papertrey Ink Rosie Posie Stamp Set | Irresistibly Ikat Stamp Set | Simple Sunflower Mini Stamp Set | The Sweet Life Stamp Set Warning: This posts contains a serious risk of death by awesomely easy craftiness. For all of you crafters and would-be crafters who have yet to dive into the world of stamping, I really hope that this project will convince you that stamping is an oh-so-necessary addition to your life. You can use clear stamps or rubber stamps for this projects – pretty much anything goes here. {5} All done!

Hello, Hello, Hello! Let me start this post off by saying: I am a sucker for holidays….all of them! My goal in life is to figure out how I can put up decorations for President’s Day. In the meantime – I will stick to the easy holidays. Enter: Valentine’s Day! There are certainly those who hate this holiday. I, on the other hand, call it a great excuse to wear my favorite red pea coat and a fabulous reason to give out crafty creations to friends and family. With that in mind, I thought I would dedicate this week’s blog posts to Valentine’s day! For today’s post, I created this cute treat bag filled with yummy chocolates. It’s simple. Just some cardstock, scored and folded around a small glassine bag filled with your favorite sweet. I used my Fiskars 2.5″ Circle Punch to create a window to showcase those cutie-patootie chocolates! I created a border for my window using PTI Mat Stack #5. Once the bag was closed, I used some cardstock and twine to trickily hide those unsightly staples!
