Murphy and an official of the American Legion, visited General Smedley Butler at his home in Newton Square, Pennsylvania. America, MacGuire told Butler, was in great danger from a "communist menace," and needed a complete change of government. "To be perfectly fair to Mr. "he didn't seem bloodthirsty. Butler was amazed at MacGuire's plan but played along to uncover details. "Yes, you watch," the broker replied. Exactly two weeks later, on August 23, the American Liberty League publicly announced its existence, with MacGuire's employer, Grayson M. Butler knew MacGuire spoke for certain financial interests, mostly those of J. MacGuire took the bait and at a second meeting presented information that nine very wealthy men were doing the financial backing, one being Grayson M. Clark's answer was calm but blunt: At that, the General dropped his pretense and flatly refused. Notes 61.
Echoes & Reflections International Resources for Holocaust-Era Assets Research The International Research Portal is a collaboration of national and other archival institutions with records that pertain to Nazi-Era cultural property. These archival institutions, along with expert national and international organizations, are working together to extend public access to the widely-dispersed records through this single internet Portal. The Portal enables families to research their losses; provenance researchers to locate important documentation; and historians to study newly accessible materials on the history of this period. This collaborative project was established to fulfill the objectives of the 1998 Washington Conference Principles on Nazi-Confiscated Art, the 2000 Vilnius Forum Declaration and the 2009 Terezin Declaration, in particular on the importance of making all such records publicly accessible.
Literature.org - The Online Literature Library Stolen Lives: The Indigenous Peoples of Canada and the Indian Residential Schools "I think that learning about the Canadian Indian Residential Schools helped me to realize many things about myself. . .I became more emotionally aware of the situations faced by others in my country rather than simply factually aware. It also enhanced my learning of Canada as a country and the relationships that our country has with our own people. I think this is really important because through learning about this I realized that reconciliation is such an important part in terms of healing our nation." - Audrey S., student at Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute "This is a sensitive subject to deliver and I feel that this resource lays things out in a way that kids understand and teachers can feel comfortable delivering the content. . .In the classroom, as you know, we are faced with the challenge of overcoming the biases that kids sometimes bring from home to school. When discussing the content from Stolen Lives I have witnessed those barriers being broken down.

Farming to blame for our shrinking size and brains (PhysOrg.com) -- At Britain's Royal Society, Dr. Marta Lahr from Cambridge University's Leverhulme Centre for Human Evolutionary Studies presented her findings that the height and brain size of modern-day humans is shrinking. Looking at human fossil evidence for the past 200,000 years, Lahr looked at the size and structure of the bones and skulls found across Europe, Africa and Asia. They discovered that some 10,000 years ago however, size started getting smaller both in stature and in brain size. While large size remained static for close to 200,000 years, researchers believe the reduction in stature can be connected to a change from the hunter-gatherer way of life to that of agriculture which began some 9,000 years ago. While the change to agriculture would have provided a plentiful crop of food, the limiting factor of farming may have created vitamin and mineral deficiencies and resulted in a stunted growth. Agriculture however does not explain the reduction in brain size.
