iTDi + Shelly Terrell: Learning to go, webinar notes 1 At the beginning of March, I signed up for one of iTDi’s Advanced Teaching Skills Courses: Language Learning to Go, led by the brilliantissime Shelly Terrell, who is probably about as near to a living encyclopedia of apps, mobile learning, and the joys of Web 2.0-based learning as anyone’s ever seen. Shelly and iTDi (International Teacher Development Institute) have set the course up on a private Google+ community (the course is not free, but for what you get out of it, it’s a steal at $50) and during the week the learners (me and about 30 other teachers in various places around the world) have “missions” to complete, consolidated by weekly webinars hosted by Shelly and iTDi faculty member Barbara Sakamoto. Continuing with my experiment in sketchnoting, I’d like to share some of the tips and tools we learned about in the first weekly webinar. Anyway, here are the notes–hope you get something out of them! p. 1-2

Sketch Notes ColorNote® is a simple and awesome notepad app. It gives you a quick and simple notepad editing experience when you write notes, memos, e-mails, messages, shopping lists and to-do lists. Taking notes with ColorNote® Notepad is easier than any other notepad or memo pad app. Inkflow: The Visual Thinking App for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch Visual Thinkers Rejoice! Inkflow works like a Word Processor for Visual Thinking. Capture your ideas as easily as with pen and paper, then arrange and reorganize them with your fingers! If you're like us, you've been looking hard for the perfect (th)inking App. Yet something always seems to be missing, be it speed, flexibility, or just plain elegance.

The Inventor of Dry Erase Whiteboard Paint Coating Buy Now We exist for one simple reason: to fundamentally improve the way people work. IdeaPaint was born from this very notion, a frustration with the way ideas were shared and coworkers collaborated. Engage Their Minds Welcome to another Phun Phriday! And this one promises to be fabulous! RSCON starts today, Friday, October 11th! It’s not too late to sign up for one of the 100’s of sessions that will be offered online for free from today through Sunday evening. Click here to learn more! Visual Tour: Our day using IdeaPaint-ed Tables to respond to Rachel's Challenge Part I: Backstory to Rachel's Challenge assembly at NMMS Story setting: A sunny and hot Friday; September 6, 2013Rachel's Challenge presentation is today; we have one every 3 years so all 6, 7, 8 graders experience it.6th graders have heard team teachers say: It's powerful and moving; all 3 team teachers cry by the end of it. I learned out loud during the assembly using Twitter and pictures. Because I learned out loud, the kids were able to use my takeaways back in the classroom. Our Rachel's Challenge facilitator was someone we thought looked familiar but we couldn't quite put our finger on.

and IdeaPaint: Creating an Interactive Classroom [Video] - Evernote Blog We’re big fans of IdeaPaint, a special kind of paint that can turn anything into a dry-erase writing surface (you can read more about it here). When you combine IdeaPaint’s ability turn any wall or surface into a canvas and Evernote’s ability to capture, archive and make that surface searchable, the possibilities for turning any room into an interactive environment are endless. These two products come together in a particularly exciting way in a classroom environment, which can become a more creative and engaging place to learn. When geography teacher Mike Curta reached out to us about his plans to transform his Eisenhower High School classroom using IdeaPaint and Evernote, we knew we wanted to learn more. Throughout the school year, Mike kept us updated with his progress by sending photos and email updates about the learning environment he created and the positive results he was observing.

Cheaper than Ideapaint... Anyone have first hand experience using both? $/Sqft I think ideapaint is priced higher due to the crazy good gaurantee (10 years and lifetime), greengaurd certification and the one coat application. that being said, I would get away with a cheaper costed whiteboard if it would be a temporary surface that I wouldnt use for years... also, I took a look at the comparison chart on the site and did some research. while whiteyboard is cheaper, how can you prove that it has better technology? I called and asked about ideapaints outdoor applications and they have applied it outdoors and said it performed well.also, any dry erase marker is recommended for ideapaint. they also showed me a test with a sharpie that was removed quite easily. as for free cleaner, ideapaint recommends a damp microfibre cloth for cleaning, no cleaner needed. just a few things i uncovered after making a few calls.

webinar overview – Graphic Organisers Preface If you access the link to the recording it would be great if you would just leave a short comment on this post to let me know. I would really like to know if it is useful to people when I post the overviews & recording links Introduction Let’s Brainstorm with Mobile Devices! 15+ Free Apps for IOS/Android Posted by Shelly Terrell on Friday, March 29th 2013 Part of the Mobile Learning Series! “You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can’t get them across, your ideas won’t get you anywhere.” – Lee Iacocca quotes Brainstorming is an important process that helps improve writing, organizes group ideas, inspires discussion, and provides a roadmap for projects. When brainstorming is combined with sketching, drawing, and thinking on graphic organizers, it helps learners to organize their thoughts for better flow and cohesion. Moreover, learners can make connections to previous knowledge and expand on what they already know.

Help Them Brainstorm! 50+ Tips & Resources Posted by Shelly Terrell on Friday, December 20th 2013 Included in the Digital Tips Advent Calendar and part of the Effective Technology Integration category “An idea, like a ghost, must be spoken to a little before it will explain itself.” – Charles Dickens Brainstorming is an important process that students should do frequently so it becomes a ritual they continue throughout their lives.

Sketchnoting FOR Learning More and more people have asked about the sketchnotes you see sprinkled throughout the Langwitches blog. I was thrilled when Felix Jacomino, organizer of Miami Device, asked me to do a Sketchnoting 101 workshop at the conference this upcoming Friday. Here is the slidedeck, I have been working on and a few resources that have helped me wrap my mind around Sketchnoting FOR learning and develop a few skills and strategies along the way. In a nutshell, I have learned 3 things, since I started dabbling with doodling

The 5 Cs in Education: What If… Sketchnoting in the Process After my sketchnoting workshop at Miami Device, I was asked to record my process of CREATING the sketchnotes. I used Airserver to mirror my iPad display to my laptopUsed Screenflow to record myself sketching the main points of the presentationUsed Screenflow to speed up the recorded footage from 30+ minutes to 2.5 minutesExported, then imported into iMovie to add credtits and music This was the first time doing a screencast this way for me…there are a few kinks that I still need to work out (how to NOT record the screenflow toolbar). [The sketchnotes created in the video below were NOT created live, but AFTER, I had created the slide deck already} Here is the slide deck for the presentation Related
