Poetry Writing Made Fun: 10 Teaching Ideas for April A MiddleWeb Blog When I became an English teacher, I knew that I would eventually have to teach poetry, and I was dreading it. It’s not that I don’t personally enjoy poetry; it’s that I never had an enjoyable learning experience with poetry and didn’t want to pass on my negative attitude to my students. I knew I would probably never achieve the carpe diem inspiration level of John Keating, whose students form their own underground poetry salon in one of my favorite movies, Dead Poet’s Society. But I knew I didn’t want to be like the film’s Headmaster Nolan instructing students in the finer points of poetry analysis through the fictional J. While I would have loved for my students to feel moved to sound their barbaric yawps over the rooftops, I knew I would be content with them appreciating poetry as an art form and the apotheosis of word choice. Moving beyond “the poetry unit” This baffled me a bit, because they seemed to enjoy learning the building blocks of language and sound. 1. 2. 3.

An Excellent Web Tool for Recording Educational Video Tutorials April 6, 2017 Loom is an excellent web tool for creating quick video tutorials to share with your students or colleagues. The tool is very simple and easy to use, and most importantly, it is integrated with several services including Gmail, Google Docs, Dropbox, Trello, Asana and many more. This means that any video you record can be watched directly where it is shared. ‘Posting a Loom video link on the supported services will automatically pull in the Loom embed player. This allows you to watch a video inline so you don't have to leave the context of the conversation.’ To start recording a video, you need to install Loom extension.
