Dennis Hopper's Weird Musical World The late actor and director Dennis Hopper, who died in 2010 at the age of 74, had a tendency to play strange, often deranged characters -- like the manic photojournalist in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1979 epic, Apocalypse Now, and the psychopath Frank Booth in David Lynch’s 1989 psychological thriller, Blue Velvet. As the saying goes, truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, and Hopper’s life seemed immersed in the chaotic and bizarre (and narcotic). But it was more than just a succession of weird stories: He was a multi-talented actor, writer, and director who pioneered the use of pop culture and music in film. Journalist Tom Folsom has made a study out of the screen star’s life in his new book, Hopper: A Journey Into The American Dream. Folsom tells us about a trilogy of Hopper's films that go deep with music: Easy Rider (1969), Out of the Blue (1980) and Colors (1988).

A Lamp which Produces an Electrical Current as a Result of it’s Kinetic Energy The 3d printed nylon polymer lamp designed by Dr. Margot Krasojević is suspended by a spindle whereby it’s weight and form contribute to the angular momentum vector as it spins along its axis of rotation; it is affected by minor environmental changes such as temperature and air currents which rotate the light along its path of velocity. The light has a motion sensor diode clamped between both suspended 3d printed sections which powers the battery lighting the LED when in motion. As a result of it’s form, the light speeds up tremendously due to it’s conservation of angular momentum, the form of the light reduces it’s rotational inertia affecting it’s rotational speed which must increase to maintain constant angular momentum resulting in a brighter light. The light has been influenced by the physics behind ice skater spinning/a spinning top.

Peters has been working with desktop 3D printers for years and he wanted to use a desktop 3D printer to build large-scale construction.

Interview with Michael Veal Interview by Chris Becker Writer and musician Michael Veal is the author of Dub: Soundscapes and Shattered Songs in Jamaican Reggae and Fela: Life and Times of an African Musical Icon.. Michael Veal’s book Dub had a profound impact on me as a composer when it was released in 2007. There are a lot of composers today who talk about the influence of club music on their work.

3d Printing a Brave New World Imagine if after an earthquake you could airdrop machines that build houses in under a day. Imagine if you had cheap and accessible medical kits that could produce bespoke medicine on demand. Imagine if you could fabricate shoes, clothes, solar cells, lamps, toilets, pipes, water pumps, and just about anything else on site and at the touch of a button. The scenario is still a fantasy, but could a process called 3D printing ever make it a reality?

This study critically examines how open source 3-D printers, such as the RepRap and Fab@home, enable the use of designs in the public domain to fabricate open source appropriate technology (OSAT), which are easily and economically made from readily available resources by local communities to meet their needs. The current capabilities of open source 3-D printers is reviewed and a new classification scheme is proposed for OSATs that are technically feasible and economically viable for production.

Howard Nishioka- Street Songs (Otaro, 1979) *320kbps Street Songs (1979) is a secret leftfield voyage into Hawaiian psych unknowns. Just check the furious fuzz of the sample track below ("Carnivourous Dogaramus"). Nishioka's guitars cast a wide net from electric-detonated space solos to acoustic-led meanderings verging toward American Primitive territory. There is cohesion, though, in his essential looseness of delivery. Build An Ark - Love Pt.1: Basic Soul Review Kindred Spirits When you listen to the music of Build An Ark, you are truly convinced that music can inspire those who are in need of spiritual healing. It is their mission to spread peace and unity through the music. It is because of tragic events such as the Rodney King beating and riots that took place in band leader Carlos Nino’s hometown of Los Angeles and 9/11 that moved him to deliver the fantastic “Peace with every step” and that follow that one up with “Dawn”.
