Accueil ALPAGE (diachronic analysis of the Paris urban area: a geomatic approach) is a research program coordinated by Hélène Noizet (LAMOP), which is supported by the ANR. Based on the association of 4 laboratories, and collaboration of many partners, it brings together some twenty researchers or academics in humanities, social sciences and communication studies. These historians, geomaticians and computer scientists are building a geographic information system (GIS) about the pre-industrial Parisian area. The concluding symposium, held on 7 and 8 june 2010, ended the first phase of this program (scheduled for release in January 2013). Production work data, which benefited until June 2011 supported by the CNRS, continues through individual research specific to individual researchers or students, allowing regular updating of the mapping platform. © Guardian News & Media 2013

Global 500 2010: Maps - Top 500 Companies are ranked by total revenues for their respective fiscal years ended on or before March 31, 2015. All companies on the list must publish financial data and report part or all of their figures to a government agency. Revenues Revenue figures include consolidated subsidiaries and reported revenues from discontinued operations, but exclude excise taxes. Profits Profits are shown after taxes, extraordinary credits or charges, cumulative effects of accounting changes, and noncontrolling (minority) interests, but before preferred dividends. Balance Sheet Assets shown are those at the company’s fiscal year-end. Employees The figure shown is either a fiscal year-end or yearly average number, as published by the company. Medians Credits

aux 2 centimes » CartoDB : EC2 AMI & vmdk VM available CartoDB is a beautiful beast but it takes some time to get all its components ( 1 rails app, 2 nodejs apps, postgis, redis, varnish, mapnik, nginx … ) to work in harmony. Assembling it was an interesting odyssey though which pushed me to read cartodb’s ruby & javascript source code (Windshaft & CartoDB-sql-api ) itself to get things rolling. To avoid this constructive pain to others I am proposing two ubuntu distributions with CartoDB (version 1) pre-installed . An Amazon EC2 AMI: system : ubuntu server 11.10 x86 64 bit user : ubuntu authentication : instance ssh keypair Requirements: open ports 22, 80, 8080, 8181 (optionally 8282 ) in your instance security grouppoint devuser.localhost.lan & admin.localhost.lan to the IP of the instance in your hosts file (on your machine, not on the AMI) ( 22: ssh, 80 : varnish, 8080 : cartodb sql api, 8181 : windshaft tileserver, 8282: rails cartodb app) remote access via freenx : ubuntu / ubuntu

SIG Politique de la Ville Guavus raises $30M to help telcos do big data at network speed Guavus, a San Mateo, Calif.-based company focused on analyzing network- and other sensor-based data, has raised $30 million in financing from Investor Growth Capital and QuestMark Partners, along with Artiman Ventures, Sofinnova Ventures and Intel Capital. The new investment brings Guavus’s total financing to $78 million since launching in 2006, and comes at a time when mobile providers, especially, are fighting harder than ever to woo (and keep) skeptical customers. In a world of streaming data and lots of it, Guavus’s strategy of analyze first, store later has been paying off. When I spoke with Guavus founder and CEO Anukool Lakhina in May, he said the company was already serving three of the top four mobile and wireline providers. They’re impressed with the platform’s ability to analyze data as it streams in off the network, meaning they can make insights closer to real time rather than waiting for data to write to a disk before querying it.
