"Cars" Felt Car Mat My friends little boy turned 2 last week! When they come over he likes to play with He had a "Cars" themed party, so I thought I wouldmake a Cars themed play mat. I got all the felt at Joanns The green base is 1 yard The red trim is 4 inch strips folded in half. All the writing is done with fabric paint also purchased at Joanns. Tow Mater is definitely my favorite character so I knew he had to be on it. Here is the inspiration. I was not talented enough to make the car inside the cone but I think you can still get the picture. Inspiration I turned the movie on while making this and just watched for inspiration. It was fun pausing..rewinding..pausing.. More Inspiration The flags were a slight challenge for my shaky hands. I cut out one big piece of black then glued on the little white squares. They are so not even or lined up but I don't think its super noticeable. All the signs I found online were way to hard to do.. But in the movie it has a pretty simple sign on the way into town... So I copied it. xoxo

mmmmm Hot Chocolate My grandkids like hot Strawberry milk lots better than hot chocolate. That's o.k. because pink is so pretty for Valentines Day. So if they were closer, this is what I would make them. I'll save the Hot Chocolate for Grandpa. On second thought, maybe I'll send them some. Cut the marshmallows in half. Dip a plastic spoon in chocolate or white chocolate. If you are giving it away, be sure to include a card with instruction on the back. On the front mine says: You melt my heart, The back says: 1. pour into a cup of warm milk 2. stir with spoon 3.remember Grandma and Grandpa love you! Felt Easter Eggs {A Tutorial} My daughter has a bunch of the plastic food from a big box store, and some of it has held up nicely. Her eggs, however, have been "eaten" and stepped on by her sweet little brother. So, as part of Project: Project's fun little series, Play Eats, I decided to make a tutorial for felt eggs. AND since it is so close to Easter, I thought, why not make BOTH kinds of eggs?? The colored variety and the plain 'ol whites. What you'll need:scrap felt needle and thread batting egg templateFelt Easter Egg First, cut out 3 pieces of felt felt using the egg template. Sew two of the pieces right sides together, sewing from marks a to b. Open up the un-sewn side and place the third piece right side in and pin one of the openings completely and sew from points a to b. (holding the other two sides out of the way in order to sew the opening closed) Clip all of the seams so as to make smooth rounded edges when the egg is flipped right side out. Flip the egg right side out and slip stitch the opening closed.

Car Mat...Part 2 Trains, Planes, Mountains & More Now that all the buildings and houses are sewn (but not sewn to the mat) it is time to add the big items. This building is the airport. The control tower has a referee from one of my I-Spy squares. *Don't draw the runway until you have marked the railroad. My Mom added the "Y" I added the butterfly. My mom sewed the mountain on to the mat. Every child needs a sand box or dirt to play in, right? This is just a dirt pile, lift the flaps to find... A treasure... or Fossils! Once all the big items (zoo, mountain & lake) spread the mat out on the ground and lay out all the buildings and houses. Use a long yard stick to make sure your lines are straight. I used the lid for a candle to mark the rounded edges. After penciling in the railroad use a permanent marker to make it official. Next Up... Part 3...Mark it up and Play

valentine-card-holder With cupid fast approaching, I began to notice how quickly I change my front and back door appearances. Ahh..if only the rest of my home received such face lifts... This, oh, so simple Valentine Card Holder is made from a few wooden products, a little paint and some ribbon. Start by painting the wooden wreath ring the color of your choice. While that's drying begin hot gluing your strips of ribbon to one side of your clothespin. Once the wreath ring is dry, hot glue the clothespins to the wreath. I found this fun Valentine palette at Michaels for a $1.00 a spool! I LOVE anything vintage, luckily I found these magnificent Valentine cards at a neat little store here in town..hated to unwrap them, but thought they were too perfect! I, of course am fond of the cute little teacher one :) Lastly, I cut a piece of cardboard for the center of the wreath into a heart and made a bow for the holder. I'll be linking up the these parties this week!

Car Mat...Part 1 Houses & Buildings Growing up my siblings and I had some awesome toys. Besides Legos, our favorites were all homemade. I loved Barbies, and had amazing hand made clothes for each of them. One of my favorite things my mom made us was a car mat. Last week my parents came out for a visit and my mom brought the fabric and her sewing machine. We spent two full days designing, cutting, and sewing the car mat. For each house or building we found a fun fabric and coordinating (or not) fabric for the roof. The flag is sewn with a small zig-zag stitch and different color thread. Give a little room so the bigger cars can fit in. If you zoom in you can see the daisies on the left side of the house. I found hydrangea fabric for big bush at Grandma's house. This is my little guys house, he loves orange and green. This is Home Depot I'm sure you know what store this is :) Or this? This is Daddy's work. Every car needs a gas station. Our church. Our Temple. Next up... Part 2 Trains, Planes, Mountains & More

Babies, Paper and Song: Valentine Rice Krispies Treats A quick project for a snowy afternoon: Melt 4 cups of mini-marshmallows in a pan with 3 tablespoons of butterAdd three drops of red food colouring and stirDump in 6 cups of Rice Krispies and stir againPress into a greased 9X13 pan, and let cool for two or three minutesFlip the pan of treats out onto a cutting board Cut out shapes-- like hearts-- with cookie cuttersCool a little longer, then eat! Tutorial: Over(ly)-Easy Pincushion « Speckless Blog This here is a quick and easy project that uses up felt scraps. These pincushions make great little last-minute gifts — nothing says “you’re a good egg” like an egg-shaped pincushion. Here we go . . . Materials: scraps of white and yellow feltembroidery thread: yellow, white, and face colorstuffingneedlescissorspins First, cut a circle out of your yellow felt. Cut an eggy-shaped piece from your white felt, making sure to get it bigger than your yolk face. Start to connect the yolk to the white part with a few whip stitches. If you want, stick some pins in. Keep whip stitching, removing the pins as you go, and try to stretch/squish the edges of the yolk with your thumb as you sew. Wait! Now, pin your half finished egg to another piece of white felt. Grab your white thread and sew around the perimeter of the white part with a running stitch. Again, when you’re almost at the end, stuff your egg. Squish your egg and shove the needle through it. Hold the thread. Trim out your egg. Like this:
