BIM Task Group | A UK Government Initiative Introduction | VDC and BIM Scorecard BIM ThinkSpace Beyond Design: the Construction and BIM blog By Guest Blogger: Dace A. Campbell, AIA, LEED AP "The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand." – Vince Lombardi It's Super Bowl week, and whether you're cheering for football's best offense in the Denver Broncos, or the Seattle Seahawks league-best defense, at the end of the game only one team will emerge from the swamps of New Jersey as the champion of the National Football League. Industry Champions Of course, in our industry, we hear about champions all the time. At Autodesk, we often have the pleasure of working with industry "BIM Champions" when we interface with our customers who use our tools and solutions. Don't Be a BIM Champion That's right, if you're a "BIM Champion," you should not be satisfied with that title. Here's what I mean: A "champion," as a noun, is the winner, the victor, the one who has defeated all others. Instead, Champion BIM -Dace

BIM Definition | Efficient Construction Project Delivery Methods - Sustainability - 3D, 4D, 5D BIM - IPD, JOC, SABER, IDIQ, SATOC, MATOC, MACC, POCA .. ‘Building Information Modelling (BIM) is digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility creating a shared knowledge resource for information about it forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life cycle, from earliest conception to demolition.” “BIM provides a common environment for all information defining a building, facility or asset, together with its common parts and activities. This includes building shape, design and construction time, costs, physical performance, logistics and more. More importantly, the information relates to the intended objects (components) and processes, rather than relating to the appearance and presentation of documents and drawings.More traditional 2D or 3D drawings may well be outputs of BIM, however, instead of generating in the conventional way ie. as individual drawings, could all be produced directly from the model as a “view” of the required information.” – RICS

The Building Coder My topic for today is structural cross section analysis, i.e. determination of the cross section profile of beam, columns, braces, etc., and the various completely different approaches one can take to achieve this. I also demonstrate how to make use of some of the powerful functionality provided by the REX toolkit without building my entire application on top of the REX framework. Before getting to that, though, let me mention where we are with the DevDays conference tour: DevDays in Milano and Security We held our second West European Devday in Milano on Tuesday. Here is Jim Quanci entertaining his enthralled audience: One piece of Jim's presentation deals with security. I think it is so important and Jim's ten-minute overview so effective and refreshing I decided to publish it right here and now: Something else happened after the conference, travelling... On Monday, Jim and I were joking that I arrive at the airport gate at the last minute, and it was about time I get burned. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

BIM Implementation in a Lean Operating System openBIM (English version) : The Sky is the limit Spectacular Photorealistic Visuals with Architectural 3D Modeling The world is falling in love with such prim and aesthetically designed architectural 3D models. Exteriors, interiors, landscapes all can be modeled with accurate dimensions, realistic lighting and material mapping. 3D models for facades, building exteriors, and landscapes for Residential properties, commercial complexes and industrial structures are designed using highly sophisticated 3D CAD software and photo editing tools. Interiors for homes and offices are designed with great attention to details. Thematic design for living room, kitchen, bathrooms, office spaces etc becomes so easy. Minimalistic Serene Studio Apartment The process of creating 3D architectures includes drafting, 3D floor plans, developing 3D models and applying apt materials. Classic Living Room Decor Lighting and shadows are added and camera angles are set for better and comprehensive view. Pool Side View at a Resort These finished building models can also be animated for a detailed view of interiors and exteriors.

Fiatech Engineering Services Fuelling the AEC and Industrial Sector Architectural Engineering and Construction (AEC) as well as the Industrial Sector, both have seen a consistent growth over the years. While housing needs and other infrastructural requirements are ever-increasing, the industrial sector is also successfully thriving. Pillaring these two industries, are an array of engineering faculties. Applying architectural, structural and civil engineering expertise combined with the use of BIM technology and energy modeling capabilities has helped the AEC industry grow in a big way. The major achievements include sustainability solutions and energy efficiency in buildings. Similarly, industrial sector is fuelled by the demand for smaller footprint, higher efficiency, sustainability and green designs fulfilled by introducing innovative design solutions backed by mechanical engineering expertise. TrueCADD, is a leading engineering service provider based in India. For more information, please email info@truecadd.com

New Processes, Tools & Technologies: BIM to IPD New and innovative technologies, tools, and processes represent the next step in defining and managing the standard of care relative to innovation. While these are often new and proprietary to a particular provider such that the requisite combination of reliance and validation should be well thought out, they go further into the standard of care by actually becoming a part of how the design professional provides its service. Design professionals have clearly been the beneficiaries of technological advances in the tools of their trade. The evolution from the slide rule to the calculator to computer modeling to CADD have all helped design professionals provide their services faster, better, and less expensively. The first has to do with transition costs associated with moving the practice to the new tool and process, in comparison to the actual benefits attained and the staying power of the technology. BIM: A technology. Building Information Modeling Analysis. Mutual Respect and Trust.

LED Contact Lenses LED Lights Make Augmented Vision a Reality Okay, this is just freaky. We know LED lights are versatile enough to be used for practically anything, but LED contact lenses? Really?! Yes, as it turns out, really. Once miniature green LEDs are developed (and they’re in the works, as of now), full color displays will be possible. Lead researcher Babak Parvis comments “You won’t necessarily have to shift your focus to see the image generated by the contact lens,” it would just appear in front of you and your view of the real world will be completely unobstructed when the display is turned off. Ah, the real world. Thanks to Extreme Tech for the quote and Trendhunter for the images. By the way, these freaky LED contact lenses may still be a product of the future, but a lot of cool LED products are of the present!

ThinkBIM Blog | Open Knowledge Exchange and Sharing Over 50 construction professionals including contractors, consultants, architects, engineers academics and students filled the lecture theatre in the Rose Bowl in Leeds last week for what was a great start to our thinkBIM’s spring BIM: Construction and Assembly series. Members of The BIM Academy Build Qatar Live Competition Winning team shared their experience and lessons learnt from the intensive 48hr competition, testing multi-disciplinary collaborative BIM to the maximum in a very high pressure environment, utilising up to 30 different softwares (some of which I have highlighted below). Founder of the Build Live competitions and COO of Asite, Nathan Doughty, opened and chaired the evening stressing the BIM Academy teams’ excellence in organization and delivery due to their existing working relationships, a set of common goals and an appetite to test a variety of BIM tools. Work in Progress (WIP) models from the design team were uploaded to Asite as IFC.
