Bear's Rainbow Blanket

Bear's Rainbow Blanket
Like many parents, I soon discovered after having a baby that I'd never actually been busy before. Basic things like taking showers and returning phone calls suddenly seemed overrated. But for me, one thing that has never been dispensable is crafting things for my son, Bear. I'm not saying that I sit around for hours, dreamily stitching away. No, it's more like a stolen moment here and a quick minute there; a few squares at jury duty, a couple more in a waiting room, and two years later a blanket is born! As drawn out as the process was, making Bear's Rainbow Blanket was always an exhilarating ride. I think I could have crocheted these squares for the rest of my life, but I finally stopped myself when I had enough to make a 40 x 54-inch blanket, the perfect size for my four year old. I've crafted quite a few things in my life, and though I have so much fondness for many of those things, this is perhaps the dearest to my heart. To start concocting your own grand plan, read on! Quercus & Co. Wall Hangings + Wallpaper We’re getting ready to take on a massive makeover of our D*S office (it’s a mess), so I’ve been hunting for wallpaper and wall hangings to bring a little life to our mostly black and white space. Quercus & Co. has a seriously colorful collection of wall hangings and wall paper that bring bold colors to patterns inspired by traditional kilims and tiles. I’m a big fan of the blue and pink color palettes, but there are some bright greens that would look great in a modern space as well. If these patterns aren’t quite your style, there are also some traditional color charts for sale that come with beautiful brass hardware detailing. They’d be a great gift for an art student- they’re a nice step up from posters taped to the wall.

TUTORIAL: Crazy Patchwork - Klimt Blankets This tutorial is available for download as a PDF HERE These blankets always remind me of the works of Gustav Klimt - without the nudes, that is. Many of these look like the Babette blanket, but this is a guide or a tutorial to creating a bigger and freer version with your own colours and in your own style. If you prefer to have a clear framework of reference for colour and a neat chart for your squares, the Babette is definitely the pattern for you - and you can find out more about this very thorough and well-written pattern here. But ... if you have a basket of scraps that look kind of nice together and you're willing to experiment a bit, then read on! First of all, the pattern. Colour A Round 1: Chain 3 (counts as the first DC [TR]), do 2 DC [TR] into the ring. Round 2: Chain 1, do 1 DC [TR] in the same stitch below. Join with slip stitch to the top of the first DC [TR]. Colour B Round 3: Chain 1, do 1 DC [TR] in the same stitch below. To finish: chain two, yank tightly. So get started!

So sorry to Heather... please forgive me for taking so long. I think I mentioned in the original post about giving this blankie away already. Because of this, I will try my best to write it down from memory and from the photos. It is really simple. I am trying to remember the number of chains that I started with, but I'm sorry to say that I can not remember. Materials: Size G or H crochet hook (if you crochet loosely use the G, tightly use H) Carons Simply Soft in Pink, Orange, White, and Green (bright shades) I think I used a little over 1 skein of Pink and 1 skein each of the other colors Yarn needle Measurements: 32 inches (81 cm) wide 32 inches (81 cm) in height Pattern Starting with Pink, begin the Neat Ripple pattern The following is directly from Attic 24 blog, but I have translated into US terms To begin, chain multiples of 14, plus 3 for turning. 1 dc into 4th chain from hook dc2tog

Mosaic Blanket What a joy it is to discover those moments in knitting when something seemingly intricate turns out to be very easy! Those are the moments that knitting legend Barbara Walker strove to find as she first learned how to knit. Finding color work’s bobbins and multiple strands of yarn cumbersome, she developed a slip-stitch technique she called “Mosaic Knitting,” a clever way to create elaborate, colorful patterns using only basic stitches (knit, slip and occasionally purl). Soon, she was staying up late into the night inventing hundreds of original mosaic motifs, guided solely by her imagination. With a motif from Walker’s Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns, we created our Mosaic Blanket, made in Purl Soho’s incredibly soft Alpaca Pure in vibrant, almost glowing Super Pink, and anchored by the sturdy smoothness of Worsted Twist in creamy Heirloom White. Materials Here are four palette ideas, including the one knit up here! • Color A: Heirloom White • Color B: Super Pink Gauge Sizes SAMPLE: Baby
